As announced at the expo, Astral Throne's Beta has received a big update. Check out the patch notes below:
Update Notes for 0.4.0:
Unit Skills
- 65 more skills!!
- Instead of having every Unit have access to every skill, units can now only access skills that are related to their class and weapon styles
- For example, Vega is a “Doctor” and is capable of using “Light Weapons” at the start, so he has access to Doctor and Light Weapon skills and can gain access to Projectile Weapon skills once he gains proficiency in them
- Everyone has access to the skill sets of “General”, “Attribute”, and “Support”
- General skills are like the skills of the previous demo, fairly simple and basic
- Attribute skills raise and lower the Units’s stats
- Support skills grant bonuses when that Unit is close to another Unit of a particular class (e.g. raised STR when close to Warriors)
- You can see what skill sets a Unit has access to in their Status menu
UI
- Overhauled visual effects and animation on the UI
- Increased stability and reduced jank
- Improved aesthetics of world map and victory/defeat screens
- You now must “claim” loot at the end of an encounter to receive it
- Shortened skill and item descriptions, with more info put into locking their tooltip windows
- A new tutorial sequence for teaching about “locking” tooltip windows to better communicate them
General
- Many bug fixes
- 2 New difficulties: “Easy” and “Veteran”
- Support for resolutions with aspect ratios other than 16:9 (e.g. Steam Deck, Ultrawide)
- Camera gets out of the way of structures during combat animations
- A general rebalance of stats, weapons, skills, and experience rates
- New settings, including disabling combat animations, managing screen shake, and if you want the game to confirm you ending your own phase
- Improved feeling of using skills and opening chests, you’ll see ;)
Next Update, we plan include:
- Changes to the world map and events
- Changes to militia recruitment
- Changes to the format of the story and improvements to the writing
