I’m very excited to finally have this update out and shared with players! It’s been a long time coming and brings both small and large improvements. The update introduces a new defensive building, new crystal variants, a revamped tutorial experience, the opening of Tier 4 technology, and, of course, a collection of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.

Tier 4 Technology Unlocked
Tier 4 of the technology tree is now available! With it comes several new resources and the buildings needed to produce them. Among the newly added buildings are the Deep Mine, Chemical Plant, Foundry, Atmospheric Compressor, and the all-new defensive building: the Beam Tower.

Revamped Tutorial
The previous version of the tutorial could feel rushed, with multiple concepts presented to the player at the same time. While it was an improvement over the very first version of the tutorial, it frankly needed some love.
I’ve reworked the tutorial to better introduce core systems such as resource transportation, colony expansion, corporate directives and combat. The goal is to provide clearer guidance for new players while helping returning players adapt more quickly to recent gameplay changes.
New Enemy Crystal Types
To add more variety to nightly combat, three new enemy crystal variants have been introduced. Each crystal type features its own unique spawning profile, creating greater variety in enemy encounters throughout your campaign.

Quality of Life Improvements
Resource pricing has been rebalanced:
Base resource values have been adjusted.
Added processing and leveling multipliers to better reflect production complexity and progression.
Terrene now spawns in a way that better distributes deposits across the world map. This should provide more opportunities for expansion and reduce situations where Terrene becomes concentrated in only a few locations.
The starting sector has received additional adjustments to improve the early-game experience:
Water should be easier to access, with more adjacent buildable tiles.
Iron ore deposits should be more readily available.
Other Improvements
Develop Ore directives now reveal ore tiles even when the target sector is still locked.
Pausing the game now pauses communication audio.
Menu windows are much more resistant to being accidentally dragged off-screen. It's still possible—but you'll have to work for it.
Bug Fixes
Added a potential fix for resource-producing buildings that could become stuck during longer play sessions.
Fixed a crash that could occur when returning to the main menu and then loading a save game.
Next Steps
More balancing and tweaking of Tier 4 resources and buildings.
Another round of performance improvements to support the ever-increasing size of colonies.
Bringing back Special Projects, along with a bit more story content.
As always, thank you for playing Deep Space Directive and for all the feedback, bug reports, and suggestions. While development is progressing more slowly than I’d like, it feels really good to get this update out and into players' hands.
