Background
Home in Alien was developed out of our love for open-world games. In recent years, there have been a lot of excellent open-world games, both AAA and 2D, and while 3D has a very good experience in terms of visual impact and immersion, 2D has a relatively simple form of expression and low technical difficulty, which allows for more content and gameplay, resulting in a large number of 2D open world games, such as Minecraft, Rimworld, and Terraria. The global players and developers have collaborated and contributed a large number of game mods to make these game worlds richer and richer, and more importantly, the players are deeply involved in the continuous development and updating of the game, which provides the game with longevity and keeps it alive.
This is our ideal open-world game form, and also the form of connection between developers and players that we expect. Enough openness, continuous updates and additions, and the possibility of players' deep participation, are the directions we strive for.
Synopsis
Alien worlds are the worldview of most open-world games, and so is Home in Alien, where players will take on the role of a left-behind human survivor to survive on an alien planet and gradually build a colony, and it's up to the player to decide whether to eventually escape or land on the ground. So this is a 2D open-world game that combines elements of role-playing, survival building, colonization simulation, and exploration and adventure.
Compared to the hardcore gameplay of Rimworld, Home in Alien is positioned to be a more lightweight colony-building operation without reducing the openness, and we hope to blend the familiar open-world gameplay with some different experiences.
Design
The worldview of Home in Alien is Alien Survival, we have set up 6 different forces in this world, and players have to deal with the diplomatic relationship with these 6 forces while building and operating the colony, so the closed loop of the whole game is very simple, that is, colony operation + dynamic diplomacy, and then add the exploration and adventure, boss fights, equipment build, pets and mounts and other necessary elements of the open world.
Players operate themselves as survivors, recruit NPC, and work together to build and operate colonies. We hope that through the addition of AI, NPC become anthropomorphic, rather than just a similar positioning of the tool man, In different growth environments of NPC, personality varies, and will trigger different types of events, happy, cranky, collapse, and even die, the player needs to properly deal with the relationship between them to make the colony lasting prosperity. Unlike Rimworld, which manages the colony from God's perspective by issuing commands to NPC, players interact with NPC from a first-person perspective, making the management module lightweight while increasing the sense of immersion and realism. The same design idea applies to the diplomacy board, where different types of forces will trigger different events, and different decisions made by the player in diplomacy will directly affect the course of the game.
These settings based on the main plot to link the entire gameplay, to bring greater openness and possibilities for the subsequent development of the game, including more side quests, triggering different events, and even independent narratives of NPC, the purpose is to make the world more vivid, the interaction between the player and the world's people and things can make the world different, so that the player feels more like interacting with a real world.
The above is our first development log, briefly chatted with you about the background of the game development, the game is still working hard to be polished and produced, hope to meet with you as soon as possible, if you are particularly interested in one of the boards, welcome to leave a message in the comments section, thank you for your attention, see you in the next issue.
