We are very happy to announce that 2D Dogfight is having an important update. In this update, we have optimized the guidance logic of missiles, making the performance of various types of air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles in the game more interesting!
What will the missile do when faced with flare/chaff?
In previous games, our air-to-air or surface-to-air missiles would remain stationary in horizontal flight when faced with flare/chaff, unable to guide towards the locked target. In this update, we have modified the logic of the missile when facing jamming objects. After the seeker is jammed by the contermeasures, the missile will fly to the coordinates of the flare/chaff and then explosied. This new mechanism is closer to reality. And it will make the game more interesting!
Proportional navigation method—new missile tracking logic
In previous games, missiles would track a locked target from behind after being launched. Now, we have implemented a new tracking logic - the proportional navigation method. The missile will predict the target's upcoming location, then fly to the front of the target, waiting for the target to hit the missile! This logic is more close to reality and also greatly increases the ability of various air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles in the game.
However, given that the implementation of this mechanism will increase the difficulty of many campaigns to an insurmountable height, our game will still use the previous missile tracking logic by default. If you want to play with the Proportional navigation method, please go to Change the player name to "All_Missile_Guider" in the game settings. When using this name, the missile will apply the proportional navigation method!
