This week, I finally finished up the map consolidation process that I discussed in my previous update! After combining a number of smaller maps into larger, more efficient ones, I’ve managed to reclaim a considerable amount of space within the project. At this point, I believe I should have enough of a map budget to finish the remainder of Crimson Veil, provided I continue designing future areas with these limitations in mind.
It’s been a tedious process, but also a valuable learning experience. Should I ever decide to develop another RPG Maker game in the future, I’ll certainly be keeping this lesson in mind from the very beginning. After more than seven years of development, I suppose there’s still plenty to learn!
With that hurdle finally behind me, I’ve been able to turn my attention back to the actual story. I’ve officially begun putting together the opening scene of the final chapter! You can see a small preview of what I’ve been working on here:

One gameplay adjustment I’ve decided to implement during this scene involves Ophelia’s support level. If you haven’t already maxed out your bond with her, it will automatically reach its maximum level at the beginning of this chapter. This ensures that players will have at least one fully developed ally to bring along into the endgame, even if they’ve been neglecting their support conversations throughout their adventure.
I’m not sure how many players actually choose to go through the game without an additional party member, but I figured this would be a helpful safety net for anyone who finds themselves struggling with the challenges ahead. After all, the finale isn’t exactly going to be a walk in the park!
I’ve also made some good progress on the art side of things! This week, I managed to complete another illustration for the upcoming chapter. Here’s a cropped preview:

Eliza’s ominous gaze certainly can’t be a good sign…
On top of that, I’ve also finished working on all of Ingridd’s character portraits! I’m really happy with how her expressions turned out, and I’m looking forward to seeing her brought to life during the events of the final chapter.

All Tier 2+ patrons can check out her completed portraits right now in the Hall of the Hunters channel on the official Crimson Veil Discord server!

I’ve always found this time of year especially motivating, and there’s something about the spooky season that really puts me in the mood to be creative. Looking over my to-do list, there’s still a mountain of work ahead of me, but I’m feeling optimistic that this burst of October motivation will help me check off a good number of those remaining tasks.
With that said, I’d better get back to work while the inspiration is flowing!
Until next time, everyone!
