This week, I’ve begun working on a rather tedious—but very necessary—bit of maintenance behind the scenes in Crimson Veil. In the next version of the game, you may notice that a few older maps look slightly different from how you remember them. Here are a couple of notable examples:

Dorian’s Manor.

Lingrave Wastelands, by Morgan’s house.
Due to some space constraints I’ve run into as the project has grown over the years, I’ve found myself needing to consolidate some of the game’s existing maps in order to make enough room to finish everything I still have planned.
If you aren’t familiar with how maps are structured in RPG Maker, that probably doesn’t mean much to you. Basically, areas that were previously stored as several individual small maps are now being combined into a single, larger map file. From a player’s perspective, very little should actually change. Behind the scenes, however, this allows me to reclaim some much-needed space within the project.
I’ve already managed to free up a decent amount of room this way, but the consolidation process has become a project in and of itself. There are a lot of old maps to sort through, and I need to test them to make sure there aren’t any events that break from doing this. I want to combine as many as I reasonably can without negatively affecting the game. My goal is to give myself enough wiggle room to comfortably finish both this update and the one that follows it without having to worry about running up against the project’s limits. I guess that’s what I get for making possibly one of the largest RPG Maker games on the net!
That’s mostly what I’ve been working on as far as the game itself is concerned, but I’ve also found some time for artwork! This week, I finished sketching a brand-new enemy type that will appear in the upcoming chapter: the Seraphim of Sin.

The Seraphim are distinguished by their unusual and ominous multi-lensed wings. There will also be several alternate versions of this enemy with their own strengths and weaknesses, similar to the different Lycanthrope variants introduced in Chapter 4. You’ll have to pay attention to which Seraphim you’re facing and adjust your strategy accordingly.
Lastly, I want to leave you with one very small teaser of some digital artwork I finished this week…

And no, you’re not getting the full version yet! This particular illustration won’t be revealed until the update itself is released, so this little preview is all you’re getting for now!
Maybe someone out there is crazy enough to bookmark this post, come back to it after release, and remember exactly which image I was teasing here!
Anyway, that’s all I have for you this week. Until next time, everyone!
