Find out more about the new Sporting Director role and Pit Crew training in F1 Manager 23 with our latest Feature Focus video...
New for 2023 is the Sporting Director. A key staff member responsible for trackside operations, bringing with them the ability to manage and improve your team’s pit-crew.
Your Sporting Director comes with their own set of performance ratings that will drive growth within your team. A strong “Aptitude” rating is crucial for increasing the overall potential of your mechanics, while a Sporting Director with good “Leadership” abilities will inspire fewer delays from pit-stop mistakes.
It’s up to you to instruct your Sporting Director to focus on developing themselves in the areas that you think are most important for success. Be it their Communication skills, Drill Planning, or getting them to brush up on Industry Standards. Development focus will play a major role in how your Sporting Director is able to help shape your pit crew.
When it comes to your pit-crew training schedule, you can choose between preset, monthly regimes or create custom plans from the ground up, even going as far as planning their mornings and afternoons. Go for a balanced approach or focus on specific areas you want your crew to improve on. For example: “Pit Stop Errors” will put focus on improving consistency, while “Fatigue Reduction” will increase rest days and lower the chances of a fatigue-related mistake.
You’ll also be able to manage specific, pit-stop drill focuses. Instructing your crew to focus on various aspects of a pit-stop to increase their experience and effectiveness on race day. Be it releasing the car, or loosening and replacing tyres, each pit-stop drill will lower the chances of error, depending on how well you balance your training regimes.
Get it wrong, and a tired pit-crew will be more prone to mistakes and slower than your rivals. Get it right, however, and you’ll be snatching positions mid-race and scoring points towards the Fastest Pit-Stop competition.
With new and deeper ways to manage and improve your pit-crew, mistakes being visible in dramatic detail, and more rewards on the line, perfecting the pit-stop has never been more important.
