For a while we have talked both internally and with the community about how to make it easier for new players to learn the game. In the upcomming update 1.06 we will add a tutorial with basic training for new players plus tutorial bots to fight against – both elements easing new players into the game.
How does this Basic Training work?
The Basic Training gives new players four series of tutorial tasks to complete to help them learn the basics of the game. This is something the community has requested for a while and now we have the first version ready for your new recruits. Below are the task new players need to complete to graduate from Basic Training.
Combat Training I
- Move Soldier
- Look at the Task List
- Exit a Deploy Zone
- Fire weapon from hip
- Fire weapon from precise aim
- Reload your weapon
- Enter a Capture Zone
Combat Training II
- Crouch Move
- Prone Move
- Sprint
- Jump
Tactical Training I
- Use your map
- Zoom on the map
- Use an Ammo Crate
- Use a Medic Crate
Tactical Training II
- Neutralize Control Point
- Capture Control Point
- Pick Up Friendly Weapon
- Pick Up Enemy Weapon
When do I graduate from Basic Training?
When you have earned Player Level 2 (or if you purchase weaponry belonging to matchmaking group silver or higher) – you graduate from Basic Training and will no longer be fighting against the tutorial bots. This will for the average player be about four to five battles
Will I be alone with all these evil robots?
No! Your side will populate with people (and bots to get to ten soldiers) and the other side will always be ten tutorial bots. So it will normally be you, some other players, and a few tutorial bots fighting against a team of enemy tutorial bots.
What are the bots’ primary main objective?
Tutorial Bots’ Objective: CAP and shoot at enemies when they are discovered. If you hide or take cover, they will rather quickly forget about you and get back to capping the objective.
I want to try?
Chances are that if you are reading this you are already way past what we can teach you in basic training. But if you still want to check the Basic Training Tutorial out – join the Prototype server now! We have reset everything on prototype (ONLY on prototype) and will keep it open for some time so you have a chance to check it out. Please do not create a new account on the live servers as that will mess with the data we need to collect in order to make sure the tutorial bots difficulty level is fitting for brand new players.
How do I join prototype?
Point your internet browser to http://prototype.heroesandgenerals.com and download the version of the game provided there. This will NOT overwrite your normal install but place itself next to it.
