Greetings Captains and Crew,
Today our update is jam-packed with big news, so we hope you’re ready.
Alpha Playtest
We are opening the hatches and our Alpha Playtest is now live! This time around you’ll be able to get hands-on with the new Cargo King gamemode, and our new tutorial! Be sure to jump on board as we’ll be closing this round on August 3rd.
We’ll also be rounding out with another Tournament on Saturday, Aug 1st, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to be our next champion then join our Discord for more details.
Secret Sauce Showcase
We’re also really excited to be a part of the Secret Sauce Game Showcase happening between July 17-19. Be sure to check out the incredible spread of indie games that are also being featured on the event showcase
Launch Window
Finally, we’re announcing that our launch window will be in Q1 2027. Stars of Icarus was originally slated for release this year and it’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly.
We’re still keeping pace with our original schedule, but based on both our launch forecasts, and alpha and market feedback, we think we can turn a little extra time into both a better launch, and a better game! We’re taking that time to focus on two main goals:
1) We want to improve our new player experience, which means more tutorials, more first time guides and hints, and more opportunities to play the game with other new players. As ever, we don’t want to get in the way of playing with your friends, so a lot of this content will be optional. We originally scheduled optional tutorial content for after release. But new and returning player feedback helped us decide to prioritize a little more time to get your hands on a ship before jumping into combat.
2) We want to build up more momentum before launch. That means more playtests, more marketing opportunities, and more chances for people to hear about Stars of Icarus before we release. A big launch is important for keeping a healthy multiplayer game going. And we know there’s a lot of audience out there that still haven’t heard of us, including a lot of returning Guns of Icarus fans!
With the date being pushed back, it opens more time for us to run community playtests and tournaments as we hone the game towards 1.0. We’re really excited for you to play Stars of Icarus and as always, we’re always open to hearing feedback and squashing any bugs that you might come across.
See you in the stars!
