Greetings Novanauts
It has been a while, but development on Alien Up has been moving nonstop. This update covers the biggest changes since the current pre‑alpha demo, shows a brand new boss test, and gives some insight into future demo plans.
Zip up. Let’s get into it.
The Game Is Completely Redone
A New Engine, A New Experience
Alien Up is now being built in a completely different engine than the one used for the pre‑alpha demo. This means better responsiveness, more action on screen, and a stronger visual presentation. Development has had normal hiccups, but the project is healthy and moving forward. The goal is to deliver an unforgettable experience, and the new build is already showing major improvements.
What’s Different Right Now
Here are some of the noticeable changes in the current build:
Reload System
Reloading now requires timing and awareness. Upgrades will shorten reload time, so hang in there Chelsea.
Music and Audio
The soundtrack has been upgraded with stronger tracks and better overall sound.
Art and Animation
More animations, more detail, and cooler backgrounds. The world feels richer and more alive.
Atmosphere in Earth Colony One
The colony has more mood, more presence, and more environmental storytelling.
Boss Fights
They are wilder, more dynamic, and more demanding.
Game Design
The overall design is deeper and more involved, giving players more to master.
If you know anyone who wants something modern-retro and fun, share the game with them. The new direction is shaping up to be a treat.
Future Demo Plans
I may create another pre‑alpha demo for a Next Fest, but do not count on it. The game is still early in development, and releasing too much too soon is not a smart move when the full release is far off.
There is a better chance of releasing a standalone pre‑alpha demo in the near future without tying it to a Next Fest. If you have not played the current demo, now is the time. The game has changed a lot since that build and the current demo will disappear when the new one comes up.
Wishlist Reminder
If you have not wishlisted Alien Up yet, please do. The numbers are low, and a boost would help morale and also help get Steam’s attention. Every wishlist matters.
New Boss Test Video
You can check out a video showcasing a test run of the Luna Miki Stella boss fight. It gives a good look at how the new engine handles action and atmosphere.
Until Next Time
Zip up, lock in, and keep the coffee hot. The invasion continues.
