Hey everyone,
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year!
2024 was a milestone year for Fargone. With the addition of base building, new locations, the bunker system, lots of new items, a new faction and tons more, the game is edging closer to the ultimate vision I’ve been striving for.
That said, I want to be honest with you all: this year came with its challenges. As a solo developer, balancing development, personal life, and a major disruption in my own life was tough. I also want to give a special shoutout to Sadlife on Discord, our incredible 3D artist, whose work has been instrumental in moving the game away from asset dependency.
These experiences taught me a lot about time management and development practices. I’m confident these lessons will lead to a smoother development process in 2025, with more content and fewer bugs. The work I’ve been doing behind the scenes has set us up for a strong year ahead, and I’m genuinely excited for what’s to come.
2025 Roadmap
Let’s talk about the roadmap.
While 2024’s roadmap didn’t entirely go as planned, the lessons I’ve learned have informed how I’m approaching this year. A new roadmap is coming soon, incorporating content originally planned for 2024 plus some exciting new additions. However, I won’t assign specific quarters for updates this time. Flexibility in scheduling will help ensure updates are better tested and polished before release.
Addressing Bugs
Bugs are one area I’m determined to tackle head-on in 2025.
I know many of you have faced issues, and I take full responsibility for the impact this has had on your experience. Balancing new content with polish has been a challenge, but I’m committing to making 2025 the year of stability. I’ve already compiled a list of issues to address and implemented a new internal testing procedure to minimize bugs in future updates. While bugs are an inevitable part of game development, I’m dedicated to reducing their frequency and impact moving forward.
Exciting Content in 2025
Now, onto the fun part: content!
This year, you can expect vehicles—a highly requested feature—to finally make their debut. Additionally, content originally planned for 2024 will also be rolling out, alongside brand-new surprises. I’ll share more about the roadmap soon once I’m happy with its direction.
Multiplayer Plans
I know multiplayer, particularly co-op, is a big topic for the community.
While I agree that multiplayer will elevate Fargone to new heights, it’s crucial to ensure the game is stable and content-rich first. Adding multiplayer would require a significant development effort and could halt progress in other areas temporarily. Additionally, it would introduce its own set of challenges and bugs.
Here’s the good news: multiplayer is not abandoned. The game has been built with multiplayer in mind from the start, and I’ve been in discussions with a developer about prototyping co-op. While I don’t have concrete plans yet, it’s something I’m actively exploring.
Thank You
To everyone who’s been part of this journey, you’ve made a dream come true.
Your support, feedback, bug reports, and suggestions mean the world to me and directly contribute to making Fargone a better experience. I can’t thank you enough for being part of this community and sticking with me.
2025 is going to be Fargone’s best year yet. I can’t wait to share more with you and see you all in The Barrens!
Thank you again for everything.
