Lack of Battlemon Updates (And Why!)

Battlemon has not received any updates recently. This is due to most of the progress for the upcoming version of Battlemon being placed onto a flash drive, rather than the actual PC that I was working on the game on. In addition to this, this flash drive did not contain any backups of the game, nor did my PC.

What happened to Battlemon V2?

It’s been a while since Battlemon last received an update, and I want to explain why things have been quiet. The short version is that most of the work for the next version of Battlemon was stored on a flash drive, instead of my PC. Unfortunately, that drive didn’t have any backups, and neither did my computer.

When the flash drive was damaged beyond repair, the progress on Battlemon V2—including sprite work, audio, and other important files—was lost. The drive itself could not be salvaged while keeping the files intact. This meant I had no choice but to revert to an older version of the game (the one currently available on Steam), and start rebuilding V2 from scratch.

Because of this, some of the original features planned for V2 won’t make it in this time around, simply due to how much time it would take to redo them.

So, what about the next update?

The rebuilt version of Battlemon V2 is planned to release in September. Here’s what to expect:

  • A brand new character - A completely fresh fighter (more of a robot, really) with their own unique move set, and mechanics, raising the standards for what a fighter should be. This has been one of the most time-intensive parts of the update.

  • A full rework for an older character - Bringing one of the original roster members up to modern Battlemon standards with new sprites, updated abilities, and a smoother playstyle. Won't say who!

  • A new raid - A challenging boss fight designed to push players’ strategies to the limit. This raid introduces mechanics that haven’t been seen before in Battlemon.

  • UI improvements - Cleaner menus, more responsive feedback, and overall a more polished presentation. Game looked dull.

  • Reworked stages - Updated visuals, smoother gameplay flow, and improvements that make fights feel more dynamic. The stages did look a bit bland, and needed a do-over.

  • Several internal optimisation fixes - This one is huge. The new backend changes make Battlemon run smoother on lower-end PCs and make it far easier for me to add new content going forward. This means less time spent hunting down performance issues and more time building new characters, raids, and events.

  • Potentially more content if time allows it

The majority of development time is going into the new character, the rework, and the raid — these are large features that take careful balancing and testing. On top of that, the optimisation work is huge: not only will it make the game run better on lower-end devices, but it will also make it easier for me to add content in the future. That means I can return to a monthly update cycle with more consistent quality, without having to worry as much about performance issues slowing things down.

In short: this update won’t just add new content, it will make Battlemon itself stronger as a game.

Ok, what next?

V2 is only the beginning of what I want to do with Battlemon. Here are a few things I’ve been thinking about for the roadmap beyond September:

  • More raids: Bigger, tougher boss fights that feel like true set-pieces, not just stronger versions of regular characters.

  • Expanded roster: New characters introduced more regularly, alongside reworks of older ones to keep them relevant.

  • Community-driven events: More chances for players to get involved through Discord polls, feedback sessions, and events that reward participation.

  • Quality-of-life features: Making the game smoother to play, easier to navigate, and more rewarding for players.

I can’t promise exact dates for these yet, but they’re all things I’m actively planning around once V2 is out the door.

How can I stay updated?

The best way to stay updated with any news relating to Battlemon is to join the discord server, where all info relating to Battlemon is uploaded, as well as sneak peeks to upcoming content, codes, as well as other events. I know this has been a frustrating wait, especially after the setback with the lost files, but I want to thank everyone who’s continued to support Battlemon. This next update is going to be a big turning point for the game, and I’m VERY excited for you all to see it.
