In response to Unity's uncertain future and changes in its payment model, we're taking the chance to reevaluate our studio's strategy. Our focus is on creating profitable games to secure our future while being mindful of the companies our games are associated with and aligning with a more ethical approach.
Out of Sight and Speed Golf Royale are already too far into development to contemplate switching to a different engine. However, Buy My Snake Oil is still in the concept stage, so we've explored various options. We've considered Unreal, Stride, and Godot as potential alternatives for migrating the project.
We're leaning towards using the Godot engine for Buy My Snake Oil. However, before making the switch, we're working on addressing important questions and concerns, such as integration with Spine, handling 2D sprites in a 3D environment with real-time lighting, and more.
We found a way to use Spine with Godot through its runtime, even though rendering SpineSprite in 3D space isn't supported yet. We devised a solution using the SubViewport node, as Brogan mentioned in this GitHub Issue. Achieving the HD-2D look, a crucial stylistic choice for this game has been smooth in Godot. The future of Godot looks promising! 😎
