Hello Comrades
We’re back again with another update - this time with new content to try out and some big fixes we’ve spent some time tracking down.
This update is all about farming. Earlier this year we promised we would be rebalancing farming, along with adding some new features to it, and its finally here!
Farming Update
Having a good and consistent amount of food in Yes Comrade is very important to survival. The ability to grow potatoes in gardening pots has been in existence since the launch of the game in December. Feedback from players has said that this became too easy and trivial, as effectively potatoes multiplied exponentially from being able to replant them as is again.
In this update we are moving to seeds. Seeds can be purchased from the store on the computer for a nominal fee and planted either in the gardening pots, or new in this update, can be planted in dug up soil using the shovel.
Another significant change is the necessity to grow crops outside (sorry to the players who turned their kitchen or basements into some sort of ‘grow den’...) and the need to water plants in order for them to grow properly. Watering plants can be done using the new item - the bucket! Buckets can be filled using the sink in the upstairs restroom. We have also integrated weather into the new farming system, and rain will now water crops in plant pots and crops planted in soil. Do watch out for [redacted] rain, as that will kill any crops left outside during it.
These changes, we believe, will make farming much more purposeful and much less trivial.

Along with these systematic changes, we have completely redone our plant assets, and added new crops: Carrots & Cabbages! These two new food items can be eaten raw, but we plan to add them as ingredients to more complex food recipes, in the future.
With all these additions, we wanted you to be able to know just how well your plants are growing. So in the store you can find the “Crop Analyser” item, which will allow you to scan a plant and receive a notification with details of the plants, growth stage, water level, and whether it is in a good position to grow (outside).
Other Changes & Bug Fixes
We’ve been reading suggestions and messages since our audio update. Some minor but helpful changes (we think) are the addition of interface prompts to the console question buttons and adding starting items around the map.
Along with this, we have been tracking down a black box graphical bug that was seen on the horizon. We traced this down to a Unity depth of field post processing setting. We have disabled the depth of field effect and it appears to have disappeared. Various audio bugs have also been fixed when exiting the main menu.
If you experience any bugs that we haven’t spotted in our testing, then please report them on our Discord!
Coming Up
We are nearing the publishing of our new Roadmap which details our updates we are working on releasing. As mentioned in our last post, this new roadmap will instead separate everything into very clear update releases.
We think it's nice to mention what is coming up next though in our Update posts, so coming next is our Radar Update. As previously announced, Ben (Art and Animations) is reworking a number of various assets in the game. His first major rework is the radar machine found in the Command Room. Along with a significant art level up, we are adding new features to it, such as being able to see players, and improving the accuracy of the tracked entities.
A few other gameplay additions and improvements will also be made.
