Diets and Deities is an upcoming PC rhythm cooking game developed in Darwin, NT! Discover the music and recipes from diverse cultures as you dodge to the beat and uncover the flavours of the universe!
I'm Skye 👋 the concept artist and community manager for Dieits and Deities! We've got a lot to cover this month so let's go!
First, let me introduce you to one of our main characters...
Meet Our Characters👋
Barong: King of the Spirits 🦁🎶
Inspired by the Balinese mythological creature of the same name, Barong is one of the characters you'll meet in Diets and Deities! Initially a foe, he becomes one of your greatest allies. As we develop the game, you'll see more of him! 🦁❤️

And speaking of levels...
Each level in the game is also inspired by Balinese temples, shrines, and natural landscapes. ✨🌺 When designing and concepting these levels I consulted our musician, Liam who was able to let me know what worked or not!

Geekfest 2023 - 8 July
Two weeks ago we had a stall at Geekfest 2023! 🎮🙌 We’ve been experimenting with a new gameplay style and it was so amazing to get such great feedback!
We were also there alongside Salty Games' Pasture, the Geekfest Game Jam entires, and so many other amazing people! If you missed out this time, don't worry we’ll be showcasing Diets and Deities at some really cool events soon!

As part of National Science Week and CDU's Open Day in August, Diets and Deities will be part of the event to represent game development in the NT.

Enjoy A Balinese Recipe 🍽️
Ayam Kuning
Ingredients:
- 1.5 kilos of chicken wings
- 6 chillies
- 5 shallots
- 5 cloves garlic
- 2cm Galangal
- 2cm Ginger
- 2cm Turmeric
- 10 Candlenuts (can be replaced with 1/2 cup coconut milk)
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon of MSG
- 1/2 teaspoon of shrimp paste
- 2 thick pieces of lemon grass
- 2 Bay leaves
- 3tbsp of Coconut oil
Method:
- Wash the chicken.
- Heat coconut oil in large pan and fry chicken until golden brown.
- Set chicken aside on rack or paper towel to dry and turn the heat off.
- Combine the chillies, garlic, shallots, galangal, ginger, turmeric, candlenuts, 1 piece of lemon grass, salt, pepper and msg in a mortar and pestle and grind into a paste. Alternatively, you can use a food processor.
- Add the paste to the same pan used for the chicken and fry on low heat for 3 minutes.
- Add your chicken back into the pan with the bay leaves, lemon grass stalk and 2 cups of water.
- Bring to boil then Reduce the heat and place on the lid to simmer for 30 minutes.
- Plate and serve with rice.
