Retro City Rampage DX - Update v2.10

It's been over twelve years since Retro City Rampage originally released, and I'm excited to announce that a new update is now available for PC, Mac, and Linux.

This quality-of-life update addresses various bugs, compatibility, and performance issues (many reported by you, thank you!).

v2.10 CHANGES | 2024/11/14

  • New Audio Engine (Windows)
    • Replaced DirectSound with XAudio2 for improved performance and compatibility.

  • DirectX Renderer (Windows)

    • Fixed re-initialization errors that could occur when switching modes.

  • Leaderboards

    • If leaderboards appear to be unavailable (ie. if you're offline), the game will no longer continuously attempt to read them. This should improve performance when playing offline.

  • Button Icons

    • Although the game auto-detects most popular game controllers, you can now manually choose a specific button icon style (PlayStation or Xbox style icons) from the menu.

  • More Controller Support

    • PS5 controllers are now automatically detected and no longer need to be calibrated.
    • Added support for more game controllers on macOS and Linux.

  • Overscan Mode

    • The overscan setting is now saved to settings, so you no longer need to set it each time you launch the game.

  • Apple M1+ Support (macOS)

    • Now built for Apple Silicon (as well as Intel).
    • Fixed an issue where the game could run too fast on newer machines.
    • Fixed an issue where audio may not work correctly on newer machines.

  • Steamworks Upgraded

    • Upgraded the Steam versions to the latest Steamworks SDK

  • Misc. Bug Fixes

    • Most importantly, it fixes an issue caused by collecting weapon truck keys during some missions expecting a different key.

Thank you so much for playing! I hope you enjoy the new update.
