It's been a long couple of years since Non Fingo entered Early Access. In that time I rewrote the game from scratch for Unreal Engine 5, improved the graphics while somehow optimizing them for standalone systems, made the interface more intuitive and the gameplay more fun and less nauseating. Also, my wife had another baby (that's why it took me so long, kids need a lot of attention and daycare is too expensive!). At some point I realized I was spending more time playing the game than developing it, and figured that was a good opportunity for an update.
It may seem simple, but this orbital wave shooter is way overbuilt: with N-body gravity affecting every projectile individually, AI that can transfer between systems and plot their own intercept orbits on the fly, zero-g player movement... and the underlying systems are multiplayer ready (though once I confirmed they worked properly, I eschewed multiplayer development in favor of focusing on core gameplay).
Obviously bug fixes, graphical enhancements, and more interface options are coming, but I'd like some input on where the next round of development should focus. I figure the options fall into the following major categories:
More Content
-More types of guns, more types of ships, better AI, etc.
Expanding the Scope of the Ship
-More systems and resources to manage, making gameplay more technical
Expanding the Scope of Space
-More places to go, more mobile ships for the player, transfer planning computer
First Person Improvements
-Bigger, more varied internal environments, more items to interact with more physically
Multiplayer
-Let's limit this option to co-op for now, and assume it requires at least one other category to make it worthwhile
So what do you think? I'd like to just do *all* of these, and I plan to, but what should I prioritize for you?
