Slam and Roll – First Anniversary QoL Patch
I’ve had this update planned for a long time, and I’m really happy to finally push it live.
Over the past months I’ve been tweaking, polishing, and reworking a lot of small and big details. Some of these changes have been in my head since launch, others came directly from playing the game a lot myself.
NOTICE FOR WINDOWS 7 USERS:
There has been some report from a Windows 7 user that Slam and Roll didn't work on his Windows 7 PC. So there is a way to revert this patch:
Just go to Game properties > betas > beta participation > windows7-compatible (1.1.20). The game will work there with all features but a couple of really small tile tweaks in some initial stages.
Here’s what’s new in this First Anniversary Quality of Life patch:
New Language
Russian language added
DLC price adjusted
I dropped the price on the DLC by 30% off, permanently.
Gameplay Improvements
Charged Balls rework
Special charged balls now trigger giant FIREBLAST explosions
Enhanced visuals with more particles
Strong visual hint showing which player is currently rolling a charged ball
Much easier to track players during Chaos Mode
New enemy death animations
Enemies can now be thrown into the background or straight towards the screen when killed with charged (red) balls.
Adds more fun, impact and clarity to combat
Roguelike Chaos Mode fully reworked
Chaos Mayhem Mode now features large swarms of enemy clones in a Roguelike style
Introduced a new type of minion enemy: smaller, weaker, and much dumber
You’ll face a few dozens of them at once
Clearing chaos stages can be very satisfying now
Enemy AI improvements
Enemies behave more consistently, especially in chaotic situations
Multiplayer & Scoring
Permanent multiplayer goals / score screen.
Always visible during multiplayer and ncourages score competition between stages
A small touch, but great when playing competitively with friends on the couch
Controls & Feedback
As requested by some player, Game controller vibration toggle, enable or disable rumble freely from the options menu
Visual Improvements & Accessibility
Improved background contrast and overall readability
Backgrounds have been reworked to improve contrast with gameplay elements
The game is now much more readable overall, especially in screenshots and busy scenes
New and reworked screen effects
Several existing screen effects have been added and improved
Added new screen effect fireblasts or enemies crfashing with the screen of flying away,
Default visuals now slightly darken backgrounds to improve readability, especially for new players
New visual filters added
4 new visual screen filters added, now available from the visual options menu
Allows players to fine-tune the look of the game
Clear explanations for visual effects, each visual option now explains what it does , they have been designed to recreate the look of older systems as accurately as possible or customize your game experience to your own taste.
Some effects may look rough on purpose (yes, the Game Boy effect we are looking at you)
Improved text rendering
Some texts now use smoother edges and reduced pixelation in certain situations
Personality & Presentation
Title screen character conversations!
Before each game, characters now exchange short tips or motivational lines
They chat briefly, then leave the screen
This adds personality and makes the game feel more human
It’s much closer to the original vision I had when designing the characters
Technical & Localization
Unity security patch applied
Localization updates
Some languages are temporarily use Google Translate
I’ll contact the original translators once the text is fully stable. I just don’t want to make anyone retranslate things repeatedly while I’m still adjusting texts
Fixed small language issues in English and Spanish
This patch includes many other small tweaks and adjustments I probably forgot to list, as I’ve been polishing tiny details continuously since June.
Thanks a lot for playing Slam and Roll, and for sticking with the game.
I hope you enjoy this update as much as I enjoyed working on it.
