Greetings, fellow non-floaty humans!
There’s so much happening behind the curtains that we can’t wait to share with you!
We’re currently hard at work on a playable demo that we’re planning to release soon, so you may very well be getting your own introduction into the world and gameplay of Voltaire in a very near future.

This also means that, starting next week, we’ll have plenty of new goodies to showcase while getting the word out on our social media, so if you haven’t yet, please consider checking out our twitter for even more information and hot-out-of-the-press news!

Continuing on the topic: Duality ☯️
In our last entry, we briefly talked about our day and night cycles and how they shape player experiences at their very core. This time we’ll focus on our ideas regarding player choice, difficulty scaling and risk versus reward!

In Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire, it is you, the player, who decides just how much you’re willing to risk for both short-term and long-term rewards, and just how much you believe in your ability to get there.

Some players prefer to rely on their creativity, careful planning and strategy, while others may rely on their reactive abilities and combat skills, so it was important for us to build a system that could be flexible enough to guarantee that, regardless of the kind of player you are, you would be able to get the kind of challenge you want - and of course, the more difficult you make it, the better the rewards!

While it sounds like a complex problem, the solution was quite simple! In Voltaire, every time you choose to embrace the darkness of the night, you must face Dracula’s goons and prevent them from destroying your crops and your reliquary (that’s fancy-talk for your house).
The type, amount and aggressiveness of these goons will be a direct result of the kind and amount of crops you’re growing, with each type being especially luring to each enemy archetype.

In direct relation, the rewards that each of those crops will eventually yield are also very much tied to the effort it takes to both grow them and keep them safe, so you will always be the master of your own fate while balancing risk and reward.
The Skill Tree
Another way to ensure that your strategy and skill actually matters in Voltaire is through the way we’re approaching the Skill Tree. After all, you are the son of Dracula, a master of the dark arts, a fierce, floaty predator and the spawn of the devil itself… well, kind of. But we couldn’t just give you a 5% extra chance to look at a slightly higher number on the screen, we want to shapeshift your combat experience every time your XP bar dings.
But hey, that’s an amazing topic to delve further into in our next devlog entry, so make sure you stay tuned if you’d like to hear more about it!
Oh! And, as always, don't forget to sharpen your fangs, eat your veggies, and consider Wishlisting the game if you like what you've seen so far!
