HOW WE GOT HERE 🗺️
Despite the title, calling this our official game announcement is a bit of a stretch. As some of you may know, this Steam page has technically been collecting dust since 2022.
In 2023—nearly broke and fresh off a miserable year spent teaching English in South Korea—I was ready to bury the project.
Instead, I made one last Reddit post in /r/GameDev, hoping to be publicly humiliated and baptized of the delusion that I could somehow make a whole damn RPG all by myself.
And while I was partly humiliated, hundreds of people also saw my dream of a Trek-Inspired, Diplomatic Disco-like and reached out with advice, encouragement and offers to help.
You believed in my my vision, and that was what I needed to keep going.
WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO 👨👩👧👦
Over the past three years...
I did a narrative design course with Adam Dolin, a writer on God of War and Horizon: Forbidden West.
My partner taught herself how to program, and helped me build a short proof of concept as my final project for Adam’s class.
We leveraged that proof of concept to earn funding through Ontario Create's Futures Forward Program and the Canada Media Fund's Conceptualization Program.
We hired a small team of professional writers, designers and programmers using the aforementioned cash.
I presented our finely-honed pitch deck on-stage with Jason Della Rocca during the keynote presentation at Toronto’s XP Summit (someone even wrote an article about it!)
We consulted with one of my biggest design inspirations—Chris Bodegård, the creator of Esoteric Ebb—who offered us an unreasonable amount of encouragement and fine-tailored advice
With all this help, we plan to create a narrative CRPG worthy of the games that inspired it.
WHERE WE'RE GOING ✈️
However, to make ROSETIA a reality, we need more than advice.
We need your help.
Non-linear, non-violent, dialogue-driven RPGs are niche—beloved by people like us, but not always appreciated by the powers-that-be. To get ROSETIA through full production and into your hands, we need to prove this is what people want.
So, please...
Talk about ROSETIA
Force your friends to wishlist it.
Join our future playtests to help us refine it.
It’s been a long road for me personally, but we’re still early on in the development process. You have the power to shape the fate of this game; to show us what you want to see, and what ROSETIA deserves to be.
