Gear up! We’re thrilled to bring you a fresh update for DownhillVR! This one’s all about smoothing out the ride with essential fixes, performance boosts, and a few tweaks to make your experience even better. While there’s no new trail this time, we’ve fine-tuned everything from respawn systems to visuals and added some helpful guidance for new players. Check out the details below and get ready for a more polished journey down the mountain!
Release Notes:
🕹️ Enhancements & Optimizations
- Respawn System Overhaul: The respawn system has been reworked to reduce respawning in inconvenient places, like right before jumps or in the river. Now, both player and NPCs should respawn in better spots, creating a smoother game flow.
- Welcome Message: The welcome message for new players has been updated with new graphics for a warmer introduction.
- Player Assistance HUD Messages: Additional HUD messages have been added to help new players learn the controls. These messages appear only when the game detects that the player isn’t performing key actions. Messages can be disabled or re-enabled in Settings ] Game.
- Performance Optimizations: Various tweaks and optimizations have been applied to improve game stability and performance.
- Shader Model 6: We’ve upgraded from Shader Model 5 to Shader Model 6, boosting performance and stability.
- Lighting & Shadows: Adjusted lightmass volumes and shadow settings across multiple levels, making shadows crisper and enhancing overall lighting quality.
- UI Selector Improvements: Improved the visibility of scroll buttons in the UI.
- Leaderboards Tweaks: Leaderboards now use asynchronous loading to improve load times and resolve related bugs.
🛠️ Fixes
- Leaderboards on Finish Screen: Fixed an issue where leaderboards would not load on the finish screen. You can now immediately check how you stack up against your friends or the global leaderboard after finishing a run.
- Leaderboard Subscreens Discrepancy: Resolved a bug that could cause different parts of the leaderboard screen to load results for different tracks. Now, all subscreens should correctly display the currently selected track’s leaderboards.
- Personal Best Time Fix: Fixed an issue where an incorrect time could sometimes be saved as a personal best. This fix addresses the root cause, but any incorrect times already saved will remain. This bug only affected locally saved times, not leaderboard scores.
- Material Fixes: Resolved material issues on bushes, pine trees, and other assets that were causing errors and visual bugs.
- Skyroad & Pillars: Fixed errors that caused pillars to appear unlit in some cases, ensuring more consistent visuals.
- Reflection and Light Capture Fixes: Made various tweaks to reflection and light capture settings, especially in stadium challenge tracks, to reduce performance impacts and improve visuals.
- HUD Messages in Time Trial: Fixed an issue where HUD messages wouldn’t appear in Time Trial mode.
Thanks for all your support! We’re committed to making each update elevate your experience, and we hope this one makes every ride feel smoother and more fun.
Enjoy your ride! 🚵♂️
