Hello All!
We hope you liked what you heard about Monuments in the last dev log because today we're going to dive into a specific example of one of these Monuments: the Watchman's Garrison. By the end of this dev log you should have a better idea of what these Monuments offer, how to complete them, and what loot you'll find.
Let's start with nailing out exactly what is the Watchman's Garrison.
Before the Lost Isle became a grave and deathbed for gods, it was the home of a prison; Mauroth's Tomb. Mauroth, the god of malice, vengeance, violence, and cunning, had been imprisoned in this Tomb and left to rot by those he had wronged. To guard his tomb, the Mother of All created the Watchmen; an organization of experienced soldiers and mages. Within a few years, they had built several garrisons around the Lost Isle to house their members and (most importantly for our purposes) their equipment.
Magical and very valuable equipment.
After a century of loyal service from the Watchmen, Mauroth's armies came, plunging the Lost Isle into a bloody conflict between gods. When Mauroth's violent death ended the war and incinerated most of the mortals on the Lost Isles, these garrisons (and the loot) were left unattended. Now they are the home to a variety of evils patiently waiting for unsuspecting scavengers and adventurers.
In-game, the Watchman's Garrison is broken down into three distinct parts or spaces: the grounds between the walls, the dungeon below, and the keep above.

Getting into the Garrison's grounds isn't difficult. You won't need any special equipment to get access. Just climb over or go through the walls to get at the low-tier equipment and crafting components scattered around the grounds. You will, however, need a specific item to progress any further than the grounds. In the Garrison's graveyard is an arcane lock. An unpowered beacon preventing you from opening many of the doors around the grounds. If you have the right infused gem, you'll be able to power the beacon and open those doors for a time. Doing so gives you access to more loot as well as the Garrison's dungeon.

The dungeon is the meat of this Monument's experience. Down there you will find a horde of enemies that you'll need to fight your way through. Killing your way around these walls and using keys to unlock doors will give you all kinds of mid-tier loot. Get out with any of it and you should have a much easier time surviving. At the end of the dungeon is another unpowered beacon. Placing an infused gem here will open up the way into this Monument's treasure hoard, the keep.

All that's left after you've cleared the dungeon and powered both beacons is a small jumping puzzle which, unless you were on my old Destiny raiding team (sorry Cap), you shouldn't have much trouble with it. Keep in mind, however, that fall damage is a thing. No need to waste time testing for it. You will get hurt. Inside the keep is the highest tier of loot you're going to find in the Garrison.
Steal everything you can carry and bail as fast as you can.
Why? Gaining access to our Monuments does not put you in a separate instance from the rest of the server. Every door you unlock, enemy you defeat, and beacon you activate will clear the way for any other player on the server to come in after you. Move fast, bring friends, or come well-armed. Until everything resets, you might just be clearing the way for someone else.
We're almost there. We're almost ready for the closed beta. I hope to see you in game very soon.
