Friends, Brian Rubin here. I just wanted to relay a quick story about an even quicker session I had with Star Fleet II tonight, to give you an idea of what can happen in a typical day in the Krellan fleet.
When not streaming my career, I usually use the game's demo/practice mode. When 2.0 is finally released, practice mode will allow you to replay any mission you've completed during your career as a standalone mission. This means if you get stuck on one mission, you can take a break with a mission that was more fun for you at the time. It's also great for practicing the many different scenarios this game will put you into.
Today I stuck with a Subadmiral mission, as that's my current rank and it offers a lot of flexibility (which again you can read about here). These days, when I'm looking for trouble, I go right to the top of the map. This is the deepest part of enemy territory, so you might be more likely to find a starbase or some other enemy elements. I headed straight to the top of the map and found a system with two planets.
I chose to check out planet A, a poisonous planet, because it was closest to the edge of the system, so if there was nothing there, it'd be quick to head to the edge of the system and hyperspace out. Just as my escorts and I were entering orbit, we got a red alert, as one, two, no three enemy ships were approaching. All we could see on the LRS were three red dots approaching. Then they got close enough for us to see we had a problem:

That's two heavy cruisers -- the largest ship the enemy has -- and a destroyer. A very formidable fleet. As we were in orbit, we had the initial advantage. In Star Fleet II, ships can fire OUT of orbit into nearby space, but ships cannot fire INTO orbit, so for a moment, we had the upper hand. The torpedoes began flying from my escorts and myself, but a moment later, the first heavy cruiser joined us in orbit and began lobbing phasers at me and my escorts. Heavy cruisers have six phaser banks, so they can fire in quick succession at a number of ships, usually handy as they USUALLY operate alone. Not this time, unfortunately for us.

My escorts and I kept throwing torpedoes and phaser bolts at the cruiser, and we got in plenty of good licks, but it wasn't enough, because eventually more company arrived.

That Y is a light cruiser, a formidable opponent by itself, let alone backing up two heavy cruisers and destroyer. My escorts and I fought bravely, but alas, it wasn't enough, as the combined fire of the heavy and light cruiser in orbit with us took us all out.
This is the kind of emergent gameplay for which I love Star Fleet II. I was just maybe going to invade a planet or capture a ship, but the game had other plans for me.
I hope this gives you a brief idea of what gameplay can be like in Star Fleet II. This was in the first few minutes of my practice mission too. Thanks for reading, and please wishlist the game if you've not already! Hail Zagar!
