Hi everyone,
Last week were spent on a number of smaller aspects that came up unexpectedly, so I haven’t quite finished the new stone tier barracks yet. However, I will instead talk about some of the decisions we have made regarding the upgrading from tier to tier.
As you might remember from my posts about tier comparisons, the different tiers obviously have different materials and styles attached to them. However, that is not the only change happening between tiers. Going through the tiers should represent an increasing sophistication of your settlement, with more ambitious construction, more effective use of space, and a generally richer feel.
One obvious way to achieve this is height. As you go up in tiers, your buildings will have more floors added onto them, which will add to the feeling of a well developed town, and gives us a bit more space to show ornaments and richness with. Another way to achieve it is with open leisure spaces. Balconies, terraces, courtyards, etc. will all increase in frequency as the tiers go up, allowing you to find and enjoy more areas that will actually look good when standing in them.
However, this means that we have to design buildings that are somewhat complex in their shape, with closed off, open spaces, and terraces across various floors, which need to be visually appealing from all directions. This of course leads to lots of testing, meaning we created a lot of different options for the stone tier of the barracks before finally settling for one (you seem some of the options in the image above). Finally, we settled for the one below:

I will show you in the next post what it will look like finished!
Until next week!
