Hey everyone!
Last week has revolved around quite a bit of bug fixing again, but we also managed to add fresh water (ponds, lakes, streams and waterfalls), and added a little to the world building.
With regards to world building, we also decided to make the world a little less random than it was before: where in the current map, you can find grassland, forests, and beaches across most of the island, the newer island will have more distinct biomes in specific locations. Each biome will also come with unique resources (for example, the grasslands will have the most access to farming, the arid mountains will have access to stone, etc), which will make expansion more needed and relevant.
While we are currently focusing the biome around the few needed resources we have (food, wood, stone, metal, and coal (which is a new resource for 0.8)), having more distinct biomes also allows us to distribute upcoming resources among them, and give a visual distinction to each area, based on the resources you may find there.
In addition, the new world building has also allowed us to create little hidden paths and areas which are inaccessible to your villagers, but in which players can find treasure if they choose to go looking for it. This should improve the feeling around exploration quite a bit, and we are looking forward to building and sharing more areas with you over the next weeks!
As always, let us know what you think.
Until next week!
