Hi everyone!
Last week has been very productive once again, and we are looking forward to continuing on this trajectory this week.
We managed to rebuild the existing Tutorial under the new quest system. However, the new quest system meant that we were able to include a lot more detail and feedback into the tasks and explanations. Rather than having a few tasks and a bunch of long walls of explanations, we were able to break a lot of it down and guide potential users more than before.
The new options also meant that we could go into more detail to explain the game, for example showing worker management and the worker overview, which we barely mentioned in the previous version. As a result of being more granular and having additional explanations, the Tutorial went from 20 steps to about 120 under the new system - and we are very excited to see what people think. If you happen to have enjoyed the Tutorial before (or really didn’t like it), consider playing it again after the next patch to let us know what you think! ;)
Another thing that excited us about working on the Tutorial this week was finally seeing the possibilities of the new quest system in action. Quests will consist of multiple steps, and each step can be individually displayed and tracked, can enable or disable objects in the game, buildings that can be constructed, and give rewards for completion or punishment for failure - hopefully allowing us to complete some compelling and intuitive narratives within the game world. For the Tutorial, this meant that we could highlight UI elements we wanted to draw attention to, enable arrows in the world when we wanted to point players to a specific building or area, and enable chests and pirates at specific times.

(An example of the highlights in the book to better show parts of the Tutorial)
While we are (loosely) planning on including quests in the regular game as of the second major update from now (after the soldier and maps update), creating quests should also give us a good idea for how we want to structure specific tasks within the campaign we are planning for in the long run. We look forward to updating you with more next week!
Until next week!
