The time has come! Cursed Sands are upon us! The long-awaited console exclusive episode has finally arrived on PC! Let's go over major points of this release!
What is Cursed Sands?
Cursed Sands is a prequel to original Return to Castle Wolfenstein campaign which was released only on Playstation 2 and original Xbox. It contains 7 levels set in Northern Egypt where B.J works with Agent 1 to try to assassinate Helga von Bulow and learn more about Nazi plans.
RTCW community waited decades for this addon to be released on PC. And now, thanks to united efforts of William Faure (author of Enemy Territory Single-Player & Co-Op and Dark Army) and garux (developer behind map editor netradiant-custom) this long awaited prequel is finally available on PC! On Steam it is available as free DLC for RealRTCW.
What's in the package?
Cursed Sands DLC is a faitfully restored prequel episode which includes a lot of customization for the increased replayability and enchanced gameplay experience.
Cursed Sands DLC includes:
All seven levels of the prequel fully restored on PC
Exclusive Mercenary enemies
Unique variations of Elite Guards from both PS2 and Xbox
FMW cutscenes
Restored dialogues
Xbox like UI made from scratch
New survival mode maps based on prequel levels
Ability to continue the main game levels from the end of the prequel
In addition to that you can customize your Cursed Sands experience and choose between:
PS2/Xbox enemies skins
PS2/Xbox loading screens
Modern and classic visuals
PC and PS2/Xbox weapon sounds
Single Player/Coop enemies count

Cursed Sands is completely free and available for everyone on Steam.
To get into Cursed Sands:
Download Cursed Sands DLC from Steam.
On Launch select Cursed Sands as a launch option.
If it was not offered you can simply click on DLC banner in the main menu.
What else is new for RealRTCW?
There was a series of mini updates between release of RealRTCW 5.4 and Cursed Sands.
Here are a few highlights if you missed that:
Weapon wheel - long requested feature finally available on both gamepads and KMBs
Hardcore mode for Survival - challenge yourself and face unforgiving foes!
Survival Bosses - Uber Soldat and Olaric waiting for you in Survival!
Multi-stage weapon upgrades for Survival - upgrade your weapons up to 3 times!
What is next?
But wait there is more! I'm continue to work on big mod technical improvements, QOL features and bug fixes. Currently I'm working on RealRTCW migration towards newest SDL3 layer which could eventually become a road to Vulkan renderer for the mod.
Also here are a few sneak peeks for the reworked hands/sleeves for BJ made from scratch. Those will arrive in RealRTCW in the near future!
