Ever since the days of Doom and Quake, we've seen FPS games come up with all manner of creative ways to build on the core run-and-gun gameplay. Even before them, Ultima Underworld established the fundamentals of the more open-ended immersive sim, later popularized by Thief and Deus Ex. Arkane proved itself a modern master of the format with Dishonored and Prey, and then built upon those ideas for its magnum opus, Deathloop.
