Dearest Community Members,
We wish that we could be writing to you with better news. Unfortunately, we will have to remove ExtraGalactica from the Steam store as the project is cancelled and development is unable to continue moving forward. Copies of the game that have already been purchased WILL remain in your Steam Library so you will not lose access to what has already been released up until now.
As some of you may know, we have always developed this game in our free time and with no funding. We've gone through many phases over the years, but we constantly tried to keep our hands on the wheel and our foot on the gas pedal. We built this because WE WANTED it.
With a team of only 2-3 people at any given time, the ups and downs of our individual lives have always been a big factor in our ability to put meaningful dev hours into the project. A lot has changed in our lives in the years we've worked on this. Between just the few people on our team we've had kids, gotten married, gotten divorced, had cross-country moves, career changes, buried our parents - things that have had us all put down the project at one time or another. Through all of that, we've landed past the point of no return. There is no longer a feasible pathway for us to finish this game and it would be unfair to players (present and future) if we left the store page up with the current offering of content knowing there could never be more.
Before we go, we wanted to take a moment to thank you so much for all of the support over the years. Whether you were in livestream with us while we held public development sessions, or maybe we got to watch YOU play on your own stream, or maybe you just played the game alone - we appreciate your love, your encouragement, and your feedback long the way. Thank you.
