Hi everyone!
Since the last news post we’ve made some good progress.
Having said that, we’re still working on getting the Mine done as it’s the least complete of the specializations because it requires numerous small but quite complex subsystems.
Once it is done we plan to start testing the military perks update with a smaller group of people.
If you want to learn more about it make sure to check out the last news post here.
We will talk more about this soon, but today we want to focus on the Mine!
Starting by revealing what the second floor is all about…
*drum rolls*
The second floor of the Mine will grant you access to asteroid mining!
Asteroid Mining
Asteroids are made of exceptionally precious materials which includes but is not limited to Factory ores, rare modules, artifacts and shard conversion boosters.
They always appear in groups of 3 which are called a cluster.
To find new clusters you can either perform a quick scan or a deep scan, the latter taking a lot longer.
Depending on your choice of scan the discovered system will provide you with a list of hints that explains to you where the most precious tiles are located inside the specified cluster.
A deep scan provides detailed hints while a quick scan only provides you with some generic information.
An example of detailed hints would be:
“The asteroid at the bottom center contains exactly two modules”
“There is an artifact on the asteroid that contains an offensive module”
“There are no ores in this system”
While on the other vague hints would look like this:
“The cluster contains at least 2 modules”
“There are treasures in this cluster”
“There is more than one module in this system if there is also an artifact”

(Values, prices and stats in the screenshots are just for testing the UI and don't represent the actual ingame amount)
Rewards
The value and chance of all rewards is based on the distance to your homeworld which in turn is based on your current military tier for newly scanned systems.
This puts the Mine right in the middle of the other two specializations since it neither boosts active progression as strong as the Power Plant nor does it encourage idling as much as the Factory does.
The ores found inside asteroids can also jumpstart your Factory since you can skip a lot of refining during the early game provided you are lucky enough to find some of them inside an asteroid.
But even a single higher tier ore could already boost the progression in your Factory by a huge margin due to the fact that you can up- and down-tier ores.
The shard conversion rate upgrades will also make converting shards to resources worthwhile over the long run. The Mine is never going to overtake the Factory in terms of long term resource production but will provide you with bursts of resources once in a while which is especially useful if you plan to choose the Factory specialism as the last one of the three available. After all, it should still be possible to progress without being forced to choose a specific order.

We’ll keep you informed about the current progress while we’re working on getting the update ready for you.
Let us know what you think of asteroid mining and which specialization you’re looking forward to the most!
