Hello everyone,
Quick update on where things are going, plus a favour to ask.
More people are playing Songs of Syx than ever before, and honestly I don't know much about most of you. I try to read everything, but with the game becoming bigger it is impossible to keep up. So we've put together a short survey. It's about who you are, how you play, and what works or doesn't for you. It takes about 10 minutes. It will help me understand where to focus development among other things that people told me was important.
It's open until next week, 23rd of October.
End of 2026 = quality
Since the game has more players than before, I need to focus on quality before I push 1.0.
I'm currently working on a patch that I aim to release at the end of the year. It will have a lot of quality of life, bugfixes, balancing and onboarding work. It probably won't include big features like previous updates did. Instead it's polish and work on what's already in the game. Once that's out the door, work on the features to complete 1.0 begins for real.
If you want to try the current state of the patch, join the Discord. That is where I am most of the time. Beta info is there. Let me know what you think.
I now have some help
Sterling thought I was grumpy because I had too much to do. He was wrong. But even so, he brought in two people to help me with quality: Arthur and Aleksei.
Arthur is helping with onboarding. He made a thing I liked, and we're putting it into the game. He's also working with Vanir on the campaign, which helps players understand the basic concepts of the game.
Aleksei is our new community guy. He'll help with two things. The first is sorting through player feedback, which has grown so much that one poor dev has a hard time keeping up. The second is some Discord stuff. The survey above is his doing, so if you have opinions about it, you know who to blame.
1.0 work starts for real
My plans never work out the way I think they will. You've probably figured that out by now...
But like I said, once the polish patch is out and the game is in a better state, work on the final features for 1.0 begins. The aim is to have 1.0 done in the first half of next year.
Thanks for playing, and for putting up with me.
