Another simple update this week, as we finished the battle stages for our demo. As you may not know, when you run into an enemy, it switches to a battle view with you vs. the enemy group (like most turn based games), and the demo demanded 4 unique stages!
We look forward to everyone battling enemies in these levels. Most enemies you'll be fighting are called 'truths', and they are all essentially bosses. Can you find things in the environment, or counter items to beat them all and finish the demo? That'll be the real challenge!
Speaking of environment 'things', we finally finished implementing all environment 'puzzles' or interactions for these truths. I hope you have fun finding them all.
We also finished some hidden world map levels. On our world map, it starts as a somewhat clean slate. When you wander, you my find 'hidden areas' where you can reveal brand new levels! They'll remain discovered once you've selected them. There are 12 hidden locations in total. Some of these might have those counter items we talked about. :)
Bro B, our resident musician and sprite artist, has essentially finished his work on the demo, and as Bro A (That's me) lags behind making levels and enemies, Bro B has moved on to continuing work on the main game.
We're getting some touch ups for main character sprites, and brand new pause menu music for every time period in the game. Now when you halt a cutscene, you'll be reminded of the main theme for that time period. :)
We also got unique ambient noises and creepy sounds for the truths in the environments.
Yes, a small update again, but as you can tell, we've been getting a lot done! Next week should begin the actual demo progression, which is always a point that goes quickest. See you then!
On to what we did this week:
Finished demo battle stages!
4 new battle stages for the demo, mostly for the Truths you'll be battling.
Added new ambient sounds!
Several new ambient sounds have been added, including new 'windy day' ambience without birds (because early Arkar doesn't have any birds)
Also added Truth sounds for when you get close to them. They ain't pretty.
Added hidden level: Stray Eye
The oddest hidden level we have. Why is there a floating, hidden eye in Arkar? You may be the first to discover it, even before your instructors...
Added hidden level: Hermit Tent
There's an old hermit who lives in Arkar. Did she come from the pools of reflection like everyone else? Or was she one of the originals? Try asking her. :)
Added new level: Refuge
Most 'normal' people who are called into Arkar find themselves here. No purpose... no future. What do they do now? You'll have to find out for yourself!
New pause menu music for every Time Period!
Every time period now has unique pause menu music for ultimate, Influential One immersion.
Added new Swirling Vortex sprites
Madae has received updates to all her swimming sprites! More to come for her, and see below for the transformation.
"The unoccupied hermit's tent. Where did she go?"
"At the edge of the world... a place of contemplation."
