(DEV) Mechs 2.0

MECHS 2.0

To be perfectly honest, two of my least favorite "fidelity" aspects of the original ORION: Prelude included the Mech and the 3rd Person version of the Longbow.

When I decided to come back to make this update for ORION: Prelude they both certainly made my list. I teased the 3rd Person Longbow improvements with the last media on the recently posted Q&A.

Today I want to share some of the improvements I've made for the Mech.

FUNDAMENTALS

There are many improvements and issues that players were having (such as black cameras, positioning, unable to exit, etc) should all be resolved. Once you play the new version when released please let me know your experience.

ORIGINAL (v1)

This is the Mech you've always known...

ARTWORK

Revisiting the history of ORION

FUNCTIONALITY

I finally added the 2nd Mode (Tank/Treads) that was only ever showcased in early prototypes of Orion and early Concept Art.

NEW (v2)

There are many improvements, including updates to the motion, the camera and overall feeling and fidelity while using the mech. This is a work-in-progress showcase of the update in development.

MECH MODE

  • Twin Gatling Guns as the Primary Weapon

  • Rocket Salvo as the Secondary Weapon.

  • Secondary Mode is now linked to the Grenade Key (so it's seamless when you exit and enter a mech).

  • RMB is now a new ADS Zoom.

TANK MODE

  • Twin Flamethrowers as the Primary Weapon

  • Grenade Salvo as the Secondary Weapon.

  • Secondary Mode is now linked to the Grenade Key (so it's seamless when you exit and enter a mech).

  • RMB is now a new ADS Zoom.

THE NEW ERA

ORION: Prelude is back in active development.

The goals are simple:

  1. A better game across gameplay and feel.

  2. A more optimized game across polish and performance.

  3. An open development process worth following along with.

This is all on an existing game that you may already own. Every update and quality-of-life improvement goes to existing owners for FREE.

PRICING UPDATE

The price for ORION: Prelude is increasing on October 25, 2026 from $0.99 for the base game to $9.99 for new owners. If you've been sitting on this one, the window before October 25th is the cheapest it will ever be. The Ultimate Edition DLC will be retired and removed from sale when the base game price change takes effect on October 25, 2026. If you already own it, nothing changes. It stays fully functional and you keep everything it unlocks.
