Extension privacy policy

Data use and controls for GaugeDB for Steam.

About this policy

This policy covers GaugeDB for Steam, the browser extension published by GaugeDB. GaugeDB is independent of Valve and Steam. The extension adds game research, browsing preferences and optional Steam account tools. It does not add an advertising or analytics SDK.

For privacy questions, access or deletion requests, contact [email protected] or use our contact page. The GaugeDB website privacy policy separately covers use of the website.

Information sent to services

GaugeDB receives public Steam app IDs encountered while enabled game-data features are in use, together with the selected price country or currency. These requests return recorded statistics, regional prices and AI-disclosure records. They omit Steam cookies, account credentials and referrers. Normal HTTPS requests expose technical metadata, including an IP address, to the receiving service and its hosting providers.

When AI filtering is enabled, the extension may also request public English Steam product pages by app ID without cookies or referrers. These bounded checks confirm developer disclosures when saved records are unavailable. Failed, age-restricted, redirected, oversized or throttled checks remain unknown; an absent disclosure is not evidence that a game is AI-free.

Optional achievement grouping sends a public app ID directly to Steam Hunters without cookies or referrers. Steam, Steam Hunters and GaugeDB handle requests under their respective privacy policies.

Optional Steam account tools

Library, family, inventory and account tools use your existing signed-in session with Steam. Depending on the enabled feature, Steam responses may include game ownership, wishlist, followed or ignored games, family-library information, inventory items and account identifiers. Account credentials and Steam session tokens stay between your browser and Steam; they are not included in GaugeDB’s public game-data requests.

Full library and inventory responses are not added to the extension’s GaugeDB public-data requests. Temporary account caches stay in the extension. Ownership indicators added to GaugeDB pages are visible to that page and its scripts.

Inventory and market features may process item prices, currency, wallet-country settings and sale amounts in your browser and send selected sale details to Steam. The extension does not request card or bank account details.

Actions you choose, such as changing a wishlist, following a game, requesting playtest access, acquiring a free licence or using inventory tools, send the data needed for that action to Steam. Review each setting before enabling optional automation.

Settings and temporary storage

Preferences and the selected price country are saved in browser extension storage. Some feature preferences use the browser’s synchronized storage where supported and follow that browser’s sync controls.

Temporary library, family and disclosure caches are kept in extension memory. Wishlist Reload recovery stores the current search text in same-tab session storage, scoped to the same wishlist path for up to five minutes and consumed once. This recovery feature does not send the text to GaugeDB. Native Steam search follows Steam’s own behavior and policies.

The extension does not add advertising, sell personal data or send Steam credentials to GaugeDB. This notice describes extension behavior and does not promise a verified retention deadline for infrastructure logs. Server handling and privacy requests are covered by the website privacy policy.

Your choices and removal

Disable AI filtering to stop new direct disclosure checks; requests already in flight may finish. Turn off optional features to stop their additional activity. You can change settings, revoke browser site access or remove the extension through your browser’s extension controls.

Removing the extension removes its extension storage, subject to browser storage and sync controls. Website session storage follows the browser’s site-data controls. Removing the extension does not undo actions already completed on Steam.

Information accessed by the extension is used for its described user-facing features, not sold or used for advertising or unrelated profiling. GaugeDB for Steam’s use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

We will update this policy when extension data practices change. The date above identifies this revision.
