Hi Moonbreakers!
We just released hotfix 1.03. The hotfix resolves:
An issue where certain rewards and Codex entries were not being granted retroactively to players who had earned them
Some server and login issues, though we will continue to monitor them
We are still aware of a known issue regarding Auras. These will be retroactively awarded, but any Auras with color variations will be fixed in a future update.
In the meantime, please continue to make us aware of any issues you might be encountering.

Moonbreaker 1.0 has just landed and is ready to play on Steam for PC and Mac!
Engage in a reimagined single-player experience, Boss Run, play with three new Captains and 12 Crew, take your painting to the next level with new and improved tools, share your paint jobs with other players, and much more.
Three new Captains have landed in The Reaches with this major update. Hailing from two new cultures – and one of unknown origin – all three will shake up your existing strategies in exciting ways!
Feng Huang
Feng Huang thrives by gaining Attack when no allied Crew are close to her. She can move in, melee attack, attach sticky explosives to multiple targets at once, and use her grapnel to pull herself towards cover, units, or the edges of the battlefield.
Saveri
Saveri can challenge a rival Crew to a duel where both units attack each other until one of them causes no damage to the other, ending the duel. She can also lunge at a rival unit in clear line-of-sight, damage it, plus deal damage to any unit in a line behind it. She can also Disarm any touching rival unit when it moves away from her.
Sol'Aeturn
Sol’Aeturn can place a Catalyst on the ground that causes variable damage to the units around it on the following turn. He can temporarily give any unit, and those touching it, Electrified, so if they take an action, they receive damage. Plus, whenever he deals ranged damage with his primary attack, electricity chains to hit other nearby units for damage, too. However, this attack comes at the cost of his reduced accuracy.
Motley Crew
To go with those three exciting Captains are several new Crew, hailing from cultures you already know, and some you're meeting for the first time. Don't underestimate any of the creatures being introduced in this update: they make for formidable foes and allies.
Mantli-Tipu - After deployment, this mother creature instantly spawns Baby Tipus on the map up to your maximum crew limit. She’s a melee unit that can stun any crew, ally or rival, and grant it invulnerability for a turn.
Scurials - These augmented creatures have the ability to cause chaos by taking control of a rival Crew for a turn, so that unit temporarily functions as your own. Scurials are also Resilient, so while they can’t attack, damage dealt to them is reduced.
Aucepeterix - Aucepterix is an airborne unit with two burning abilities. It deals damage to all units in a selected area, pushes them back, and Burns them. Also, every time Aucepterix moves, it deals damage to all units in its path and Burns them.
Ovix - Ovix is an armored unit that can charge through any units in a straight-lined path, pushing them back and dealing damage to anyone it has collided with.
Turo - Turo can conditionally raise the max health of the units he targets, including his own. Max health will go up by an amount equal to the number of units being targeted, but it will be lost upon taking damage. If Turo reaches at least 25 health, the match will be automatically won. Try using Savria’s Shield Barrier on Turo to protect him.
Teniza - Teniza’s move and attack are refreshed whenever it destroys a rival crew. This opens the potential for a chain of attacks and for the destruction of multiple rival units.
Melini - Any rival unit in clear line of sight of Melini (not obstructed by soft cover, hard cover, or units) have their accuracy reduced. Observe this here by changing Melini’s position.
Atoctia - Atoctia is a melee unit that can toss a unit behind it, damaging them. This ability may force rival crew into dangerous situations or move them away from objectives. Try tossing Flurry in-between the rivals. If Atoctia is destroyed, it leaves behind a Cinder Pile on the map.
Cocoleh - This mother unit spawns a Young Cocoleh (a separate unit with unique abilities) to a set maximum whenever any Crew, ally or rival, in range of her is destroyed. She can also grant herself and any allied Melee units in range—like her own babies—Firststrike for the turn, meaning targets won’t counterattack a melee strike. Try destroying that injured Scattervine and see what rolls out.
Young Cocoleh - Young Cocoleh is an airborne scavenger that will automatically gain Attack and Health whenever any nearby crew, ally or rival, in its line-of-sight is destroyed.
Nenepi - Nenepi’s ability causes damage to any unit, ally or rival, and that unit will gain Attack power for a limited time. His ability is best used on your own crew with the aid of a healer, especially because the extra Attack stacks. Try using Nenepi’s ability on Antios, Gauntlet with Stitchy McPatchy’s healing assistance.
Pahti - Pahti is an airborne melee unit that can fully heal itself. It gains Attack and Speed after it takes damage, so it could become stronger and could move farther each turn. Damage can come from an ally or rival.
Feel the Rush
An improved single-player experience is also arriving in this update. Building on the community-favorite Cargo Run mode, Boss Run replaces and extends the challenge into 10 grueling rounds, each more difficult than the last.
Choose your Captain and their Crew from the existing pool you know and love, as well as the three new Captains introduced with this update, and aim to defeat the gauntlet of challenging opponents – some of them brand new to this mode.
Four new maps have been introduced specifically for Boss Run, with three to nine variations per map:
Cholek Plateaus, a lush location surrounded by water and rich foliage.
Methedori Broken Outskirts, an arid cavern, flanked by cliffs.
Smuggler Sundown, a remote, dusty area, cut through by pipes and abandoned crates.
Yi-Aweti Temple Ground, a serene, grassy location, with remnants of rock formations.
As you advance through each round, you will also unlock details about The Reaches and its inhabitants for the Codex, featuring rich and additional lore, insight and much more.
Familiar staples of Cargo Run remain, like Assists and Relics, as well as the ability to recruit new Crew to your cause as you take on each new opponent.
In the end, will you reach success and glory by defeating all 10 Bosses? Or fall on the battlefield. Only time, and the true test of your skills and strategies, will tell!
Fresh Paint
For all of our creative players, looking to customize their Rosters even further, an improved Paint Mode has been introduced. With refreshed UI, and additional tools, it has never been easier to create your dream paint jobs for all of your favorite Units.
Get creative with a variety of Stencils, all found under the Decals section, as well as masking liquid (‘liquid’ you can add to your unit to prevent paint from applying in that area) and masking remover. The possibilities are endless. And, once you've finished your paint jobs, you can now use the share tool to allow others in the community to import and play wearing your amazing creations.
Improvements Abound
From a revised Tutorial, new scenarios for multiplayer, tons of optimizations and bug fixes, UI overhauls, new art, animations, and VFX, Moonbreaker 1.0 is chock-full of improvements to make the 1.0 experience feel polished and complete.
Additionally, some obsolete features have been removed – such as Sparks and Rarity – to simplify the game for all.
Rewards Are Here To Stay
The Rewards track will remain in the game, allowing all players to earn unique cosmetic items to personalize their Moonbreaker experience. From profile icons, crests, decals, banners, paint sets and more, everyone will have the opportunity to earn, and continue to unlock, these rewards.
Death Bot Extilior, a skin which could be earned on the track during Early Access, is now part of an additional, optional Cosmetic Pack DLC.

For Glory (and Bragging Rights)
Think you have what it takes to become the best Moonbreaker player in all The Reaches?
Take on the challenge of Ranked Mode and battle against the best-of-the-best as you climb your way to the top.
Each match will contribute to your Rank, and you’ll need to keep facing off against challengers to improve it over time.
Pretty as a Picture
Moonbreaker has never looked so good, with several visual improvements making it into the latest update.
Unit Outlines have been added to make it easier to see your Crew around cover, Volumetric Fog has been introduced for more visual depth, and Line of Sight has been improved to make it easier to see when and where your Crew can attack.
These gameplay readability improvements, including improvements to contrast between maps and Units, should make your entire Moonbreaker experience much smoother.

Hello Moonbreakers!
It's been an amazing week. It started off with the popular, effusive and miniatures-loving Bricky posting quite a video about Moonbreaker.
His enthusiasm is infectious and gave the team a big boost of energy. He called out so many things that we've worked super hard on, but weren't sure anyone noticed. Everything from some wild unit abilities, to our unique art style, to the audio dramas and to the build stability. It also gave us a huge boost of players.
All the new traffic led to a lot more reviews, and since the game has gotten so much better, the positive reviews have come flooding in. In fact, yesterday we hit that coveted Overwhelmingly Positive.
This all made us, and the community, very happy. This rating may or may not last, but we'll take it. Once you hit numbers like these, Steam will generally promote your game much more.
There are hundreds of players online right now, so it's much easier to get games, and get good matches. We cannot thank Bricky enough. We're hoping we're having our "Subnautica moment," where streamers start discovering and showing the game. Fingers crossed.
Community Updates
In response, the community has put together a tournament for this weekend. If by the time you read this, it has passed, you can bet the VODs are still there in our Discord. Look for all the details at the signup page, here.
We're not sitting on our laurels though - we've got too much to do. We've got our biggest update yet, coming this summer. We're adding Ranked Play, Roster Perks, a bunch of new Crew, a lore Codex and a new single-player mode.
Finally, our community paint gallery is exploding. Take a look and get inspired by all the incredible techniques people are using and results they're getting.
Looks like the beach may have to wait. But we couldn't be happier.

Hello Moonbreakers!
Charlie Cleveland, Game Director on Moonbreaker (previously of Subnautica) has been sharing some awesome Units of the Day on our Reddit (and we've been cross-posting them in Steam discussions). We're excited to share another roundup of new Units coming to Moonbreaker. To read the full post for each Unit, click "Read More."
"Originally called the "Tendril", the seed of the idea here was to have cables or tendrils shooting out from it, lashing onto to all units in range, paralyzing them. For a culture that's all about disrupting, that seemed appropriate. And this was another foray into bigger units, with splashier, more exciting effects."Read more.
"I think this one started more with the concept, than with an ability. We thought about some kind of big shock-mace, which emanated a lot of electrical power. That feels like a familiar trope, but the great thing about tropes is that they are clear and players "get" them immediately. "Read more.
"The idea was to "channel" energy from the sky or from your ship, and then reproject it somewhere on the field - or possibly the reverse. An earlier idea was to have it recharge your ship assists so you could use them twice in a turn. But now with ship assists removed (not forever though! more coming on that soon), we needed some other "channel"."Read more.
Thanks for all the excitement and feedback regarding these new Units! As a reminder you can play on our Experimental Branch to help us test some upcoming Moonbreaker goodness.

"A lot of the units I've talked about so far took some iteration, some time to get right. But for today's unit, it worked pretty much first try. Introducing, Pacifier Ohtli."Read more.
"Next up in our upcoming Crew we'll be releasing as part of our upcoming Servants of Yi-Aweti culture. The idea for Motivator Atzi was that it was originally a mining robot, before "awakening" to find a higher purpose."Read more.
"The idea for this unit was originally to have some game effect "reflected" back at a unit. Ie, if you got hit with a 15-damage Furia, instead of hitting the target unit, it would bounce back and clobber Furia instead. So the art team created a robot with mirror, which she was looking into, and that she could also use to reflect things back at folks."Read more.
"This is a fun one. I wanted to create a unit that was just plain annoying to play against. One that you could use to harass your opponent, trying to tilt them." Read more.
"We never wanted to think of our unit abilities as "good" or "bad". The game is all about infinite possibilities, so who were we to say that in some special situation, you might want to heal an enemy unit instead of your own? It doesn't happen often, but definitely happens."Read more.
"This guy can cloak all nearby units, forcing you to deal with it first before the other ones. It's a bit ridiculous - so much so that we had to make sure it couldn't cloak itself in case you found out a way to clone it"Read more.
Keep an eye on the Steam forums, too. We will hopefully post these daily Unit previews there as well. We are looking forward to sharing more and more exciting development updates with you.

Get ready to shake up the board in the latest update to Moonbreaker Early Access.
Grow your Rosters and roar into battle with two brand-new Captains, several new Crew, and tons more ways to make your Moonbreaker experience bloom and grow.
We're adding not one, but two new Captains to this update.
Xuna – whose name might seem familiar to those of you that listened to Zax's Story – arrives in The Reaches with her menagerie of robot animals. A 'Beastmaster' of sorts, she can deploy and engage her robots to help control the board and support her crew in a number of ways. With Toltacan ready to attack, Dado on standby for healing, and Majan to cover your tracks with some soft cover, the strategic possibilities are endless.
Want to learn more? Xuna's audio drama is also available with this update. Listen in-game or on your favorite Podcast platform to dig deeper into the world and lore of The Reaches.
Meanwhile, Gardner Xo is ready to cultivate. Fertilize the soil of any map and give Crew in-range a speed boost, Nourish gives a health boost, or you can plant Thornvines to create obstacles for your Rivals and send them on the attack. You'll be a real thorn in their side.
Some improvements to Xuna and Gardener Xo's models will be introduced in a future update. So, for now, they are not able to be painted. (We don't want you to lose your incredible and creative designs!)
New Unit, Who's This?
Looking to shake up your Rosters? Look no further!
Five new Units are crashing onto the board with Beasts and Blooms. They're ready to head into battle alongside your chosen Captain.
Pacifier Ohtli (Yi-Aweti): A five Leadership cost, nine health melee Unit. He has the ability to return friendly or enemy Crew to the Bridge. But Pacifier Ohtli will take one damage each time
Dr. Feelbad (Smuggler): A six Leadership cost, 10 health ranged Unit. He can fire their Left and Right gun for a Cinder cost of one (Left) or two (Right). For the next turn, affected Units take one extra damage, per gun used, whenever they take damage.
Fixer (Smuggler): A one Leadership cost, seven health ranged Unit. With Call Favor, they can choose a Crew and give it Infused for three turns (if friendly), or give it a Bounty for three turns (if rival).
Arms Dealer Yuki (Smuggler): A five Leadership cost, nine health ranged Unit. She can use Fire Sale to give each allied Crew in range a single-use grenade, flamethrower or mine.
Whispers (Smuggler): A two Leadership cost, eight health Unit. Use two Cinder on Feel the Music to push away all Units in range. Crew in range also gain Powerless for a turn, rendering their unit ability unusable
You can also trial Units from the Collection menu. Select the Unit that tickles your fancy and click “Try Me!” to give it a shot and see if you'd like to take them into battle.
Train at the Academy
Hone your strategy skills by completing Tutorials at the Methedori Academy and learn all the intricacies of Moonbreaker! Maximus will guide you through a refined first module and three new training modules to help you get the edge on your rivals.
As you complete each tutorial module, you'll also earn unique rewards to trick out your Roster and much more.
Paint Your Way
Have you ever wanted the deployables to be as customizable as the Units themselves? You're in luck! With this update, you can now paint some deployables to match your sweet paint jobs.
Zax's mines are currently available to paint and customize to your heart's content, with additional deployables (such as Xuna's robot companions) coming soon.
You can even lose yourself more in the painting experience with new environments and backdrops to choose from. Try them out and see if they make your time painting even more zen.
Changes for the Community
But that's not all!
The team has been hard at work improving the game in so many areas, based on continued feedback from the community.
You can now select your map for private games. See where you stand on the new Leaderboard. Plan ahead with improved pathfinding. Create Rosters with more ease. Strategize your next moves with greater accuracy with added bases to cover. Increased board visibility thanks to adjusted map lighting, Added volume slider for tutorial videos. And much more.
Please keep all of your incredible feedback coming in through Discord, on Nolt, and across social media. We want to make the Moonbreaker experience one you return to over and over again.

Hey Moonbreakers!
We've been hard at work adding new features and new Crew to the game. But now it's finally time to add something else - two new Captains! But first…
We like to say that if we're not embarrassed by our first release into Early Access, we waited too long.
Some of you might remember that the first version of Subnautica didn't even have… a sub. Seriously, the Cyclops was nowhere to be found. Nor did it have any survival elements. I'll never forget reading words on a Steam review that said "How DARE you release a survival game without eating and drinking?!" At that point, we hadn't even been thinking about the game in terms of survival. But those words just kept ringing in my ears.
Players were clearly thinking of the game as a survival game, and they "showed us" that it was. So we added food and water and kept moving forward. That's a long way of saying that even though we knew three Captains, ~40 Crew, no tutorial and no single-player was a pretty threadbare first release, we released it anyways knowing that the feedback we'd get would help us immensely.
We didn't know how much of the core game systems needed revisiting along the way, but we're so much better for it. So, Beasts & Blooms (releasing this week or next) is the first addition of two new playstyles, with many more to come.
Beasts
Xuna is our robotic "beastmaster", who plays as a control archetype. Instead of her being able to attack, she has a robot dog that becomes disabled when it would otherwise be destroyed. As an expert robot-maker, Xuna can repair her trusty Toltacan by getting close to it. She can also use her robotic parrot to create areas of soft cover, and assign her insect drone to repeatedly heal any Crew she likes. All together, this gives her a nice toolkit for controlling game pacing and regions of the map.
Blooms
Gardener Xo is our "gardener" class, who is all about creating, growing and nurturing (he is also the first of a new culture, called The Servants of Yi-Aweti - more to come there). The Gardener can create spiky Thornvines, which damage anything they touch. He also automatically "nurtures" all friendly units nearby, increasing their max health temporarily. A nurtured Thornvine turns into a mobile sentry, which slowly marches towards enemies and automatically shoots them every turn. He feels a bit like the Gorge from Natural Selection 2.
Crew
We've also added five new Crew, which will unlock new gameplay. Generate more Cinder and place bounties on other units with the Fixer, give any Crew single-use flamethrowers, grenades and mines with Arms Dealer Yuki, throw friendly or rival units back to the Bridge with Pacifier Ohtli, blanket units with multiple piles of corrosive particles with Dr. Feelbad or deafen and push Crew with Whispers. These new units should add more variety and playstyles to the game, and we have many more Crew (and all new cultures) on the way.
There's tons more in this update though. For more details, check out this video we just posted, where I show the rest:

Cinder is no longer the only resource to manage when planning your strategy and Rosters. Leadership is a new resource that is generated by your chosen Captain, and is used to deploy your Crew onto the field.
Some Units can generate Cinder, which is used to power abilities. Alternatively, you can now harvest Cinder directly from the environment. You'll need to plan carefully to maximize your use of both resources to lead your Crew to victory.
Discover New Paths to Victory
Defeating your opponent's Captain is no longer the only way to win in Moonbreaker!
Each map now features different Scenarios, including areas to control, that provide Victory Points. You need to gather 10 Victory Points in total to win a match. Though, you must remain vigilant! Defeating the Captain will grant 10 Victory points to the opposing team.
Plan your moves carefully to take advantage and execute your strategies to their greatest effect!
New Units, Bigger Rosters
We've added a handful of new Smugglers Units to the latest update with some awesome abilities that are sure to shake up the board and keep your rivals on their toes. They are:
Turncoat: A four Leadership cost, six health melee Unit. They have the ability to immobilize a rival Crew. On your next turn, gain control of the Unit if still in range.
Crash: A six Leadership cost, 10 health melee Unit. With the ability Flux Capacitor, attack ALL touching units, then permanently gain +1 Attack and lose -1 Health.
Flurry: A five Leadership cost, 10 health melee Unit. Their passive ability means that when Flurry takes damage, you deal 2 damage to ALL Units (inluding friendly) in range.
Noxy: A five Leadership cost, six health ranged Unit. With the passive ability Defend the Swarm, when damaged Noxy will create a Toxoid (max 1). Whenever a Toxoid is destroyed, they gain +1 Attack.
Hittenruhn: A three Leadership cost, six health Unit. Whenever they damage their target, Hittenruhn’s passive ability refreshes its move.
In addition, expanded Roster sizes (10 slots) give you even more control over your strategies and the ability to discover unique Unit combinations.
Ship Assists have also been adjusted to a Cargo Run only feature. This provides players with more chances to finesse their game-by-game plans, as well as amp up the unpredictability of Cargo Run.
A Little Extra Sparkle
We've added a few bonus items to the Season Track rewards you can unlock as part of this update!
These bonus rewards include a slick alternate paint job for one of the newest units added to the game, Turncoat, as well as an additional decal pack, profile image, and banner to further customize your Rosters.
But that's not all. You can also get your hands on an opulent palette of glitter paints to really ✨dazzle✨ your opponents in battle!
Community At Our Heart
In January, we launched our Experimental branch, giving the community unprecedented access to our day-to-day development. This provided players the opportunity to actively provide feedback, which allowed us to tweak and refine this update while we were developing it. The change to introduce Leadership came directly from the community, and would not have happened without their input and help.
We also revisited some of the more popular game suggestions on Nolt, and really took the time to fold the community into every part of Command and Control.
This includes the implementation of an always visible Turn Timer (one of the more popular community suggestions), massively improved match intro and outro screens, and a more thorough, engaging Tutorial.
And we won't stop there...

Hello Moonbreakers,
We hope you all had an amazing holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
Over the break, we spent a ton of time reading through all of your feedback on Nolt, in our Official Discord, across social media and through responses to our survey. That feedback has been invaluable in helping us shape the next steps for Moonbreaker.
As you might've seen from the Dev Vlog in early December, there are a lot of anticipated changes coming soon to the game, and we really want to get those changes into your hands much sooner to gather your feedback.
Today we are introducing a daily Experimental build for players who would like to provide feedback on in-development content for the next big Moonbreaker update. This build will update every day and include new scenarios and battle conditions, Crew, maps, and features. We'll be relying on you to tell us what you think!
Your Moonbreaker account on Experimental will be separate to the default build of the game (referred to as “None” in Steam’s listed Betas) – which means you won't have access to your Paint Jobs or any progress you've made there. You will encounter more bugs on this build and we might need to reset accounts on Experimental from time-to-time. This will not affect your progress on the default build, but we'd highly recommend not completing any detailed Paint Jobs in Experimental if you are sentimental about them.
Excited to provide daily feedback on Moonbreaker's development? It's simple to switch to the Experimental build on Steam. Here’s how:
How to Access the Experimental Build
Exit Moonbreaker if the game is running
Go to your Steam Library and find Moonbreaker
Right click it and select “Properties”
Switch to the “Betas” tab
Choose “experimental” from the drop down menu
Moonbreaker will download and update the new game files
Once the download completes, you should see a “Play” button!
You can switch back to the default build of Moonbreaker at any time through the same drop down menu by selecting “None”
With all of the changes coming to Moonbreaker, we anticipate that the next update to the default build of the game will happen some time in late February. This will give us time to gather your feedback and make tweaks and balance changes as needed! We are making some big changes to gameplay and would love your feedback on them in Experimental.
We also have a new channel in Discord for players checking out the Experimental build as a place to provide feedback and let us know about any major or game-breaking bugs.
