Immersive sims like Dishonored and Deus Ex are typically solo experiences, but there have been a few attempts to bring multiplayer into the mix over the years. System Shock 2 featured an infamously wonky cooperative mode that was overhauled in last year's Nightdive remaster, whil
rkane's 2017 immersive sim Prey is a genuinely great videogame, with a genuinely weird name—shared with a pre-existing shooter and a famously cancelled sequel that it has absolutely nothing to do with. Arkane founder Raphael Colantonio said a few years ago that he really did not
Few ideas have as universal an appeal as the space bounty hunter: a character archetype that blends all the best bits of wandering ronin and western gunslingers and gives them a cool spaceship and a jetpack. But while almost everyone wants to be Boba Fett, videogames have given u
The original Prey was one of the most striking and innovative FPS games of the 2000s - I mean, it had portals before Portal, for crying out loud. It was the excellent result of an admittedly turbulent development cycle that spanned roughly a decade, and that instability spread to
First-person shooters are one of the genres that's come to define gaming on PC. Between the rip-roaring action of a good gunfight, social interactions of an MMO, or the long-term decision-making of a strategy game, playing on our computers has been characterized by some key exper
In case you've never played Prey, Fallout 3, or its 'cooler Daniel' Fallout: New Vegas—I've got great news. You can get all three of them for less than I, PC Gamer writer Harvey Randall, will be spending on lunch shortly after I write this... Read more.
Prey was released in 2017 to some lukewarm review scores, but overall, it had a pretty fantastic reception, with many praising it as an underrated masterpiece. But only one fan took their love of the game to the next level, counting down the days until a possible sequel was annou
Like many PC gamers across the world, I was appalled when I heard about the shuttering of Arkane Austin by Microsoft . Despite the studio's recent woe with Redfall , a game described by some commentators as one where 'executives ruined everything' , I'd presumed that its previous
fter laying off thousands of employees over the past couple years, games industry executives appear to be adopting a more efficient method of what they euphemistically call "reprioritization": closing entire studios. Take-Two axed two studios just last week, and now Microsoft has
rkane co-founder Raphael Colantonio, who left the studio in 2017 and launched indie developer WolfEye Studios a couple years later, is teasing his next game—and even though it's just scribbles on a whiteboard, I am already excited... Read more.

Could Prey 2 ever become a reality? The Arkane and Bethesda FPS game from 2017 has become a cult favorite, regarded for its inventive puzzle design, stylish, art deco environments, and mind-bending narrative. In the wake of Redfall, Dishonored developer Arkane is potentially alre
I like Arkane's 2017 immersive sim Prey a lot—even more than I liked Human Head's 2006 FPS of the same name. (Which, for the record, I liked quite a lot too.) But I was always baffled by the decision to reuse the title. Developer Arkane was explicit that its game was not a sequel
The Epic Games Store has been giving away games for a few years, and to be frank it's grown a little mundane. But it still puts up some real bangers every now and then, and today is one of those days: Prey , Arkane's absolutely fantastic sci-fi shooter from 2017, is free for the
Chalk it down - another triple-A game using Denuvo anti-cheat is removing the software. This time around, it's Prey , the 2017 horror game from Arkane Studios, that's losing the DRM system. Announcement of the patch came on Reddit , where it was revealed the update was due to arr
Human Head Studios, developer of the original Prey, has shut its doors after 22 years. In its place is Roundhouse Studios - a new company owned by Bethesda. All Human Head employees were offered a job at Roundhouse as part of the transition, Bethesda has said. Today's press relea
Prey 2 is one of the cancelled games I think about the most. That trailer was enough to build up a lot of anticipation and dreams of being a bounty hunter on an alien planet. Instead we got the excellent but dramatically different Prey from Arkane. We'll never be able to play Pre
Prey ’s multiplayer mode, Typhon Hunter, sounds like a perfect fit for the paranoia-inducing FPS. Launched yesterday, it puts one player in the shoes of Morgan, while three other players get to be mimics, using their shapeshifting abilities to hide from the gun-toting scientist.
