Just when you thought you’d met the worst of them, the underworld has seen fit to introduce even more of it’s charmingly dreadful divine patrons. Whether you’re forging a path of glory or simply trying not to perish horribly, these gods are here to make things… interesting.
Let’s meet the next round of delightfully dreadful deities you’ll be trying to impress, appease, or simply survive.

EOCIDE

Blood, sulk, and rage, bottled in a divine vessel with a flair for melodrama.
A headstrong god with ideas well above his station and the temper of a caffeinated wasp, Eocide is a living conduit for blood magic. His body is scrawled with primordial markings - a visual diary of poor life choices and unacknowledged genius. Worship him if you must, but don’t expect gratitude. He’s still bitter about not making the top spot in the pantheon’s popularity contest.

THE THING THAT GROWS

Half god, half compost heap, all fury.
Overlord of the Dread Pantheon, this fungal terror commands deference with the subtlety of a falling anvil. His shriveled, spore-ridden form radiates power and a general discontent with absolutely everything. Cross him, and you’ll be mulch before the day is out. Then again, even smiling at him funny seems to qualify as a slight, so good luck.

BRASS LEVIATHAN

Think ancient wrath meets eldritch grumble.
This enigmatic titan slumbers somewhere far below, seething in the abyss and muttering about the good old days. Its hulking brass form is less “majestic artifact” and more “forgotten horror that should probably stay buried.” But should it rise, expect chaos, destruction, and the distinct feeling that someone’s definitely getting blamed for waking it up.

MOTHER OF TEARS

Tragedy personified - now with bonus wailing.
She is despair incarnate, a towering matriarch draped in sorrow and slightly questionable fashion choices. Equal parts corpse, crone, and catastrophic emotional baggage, the Mother of Tears isn’t so much worshipped as endured. Her dynasty needs restoring (apparently). Your involvement is mandatory. Bring tissues.

The gods are a truly charming bunch, aren’t they? Nothing quite like a pantheon composed of a walking biohazard, an overworked blacksmith of destruction, an existentially hungry void, and a giant corpse-eating fly to really set the mood.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to serve deities that range from “mildly concerning” to “outright catastrophic,” then you’re in luck. Today, we’re taking a closer look at some of the delightful patrons you’ll be grovelling before in The Deadly Path.

Roiann, The Blightcaster

He from whom all manner of pestilence is borne - like a particularly unsanitary delivery service. Toil diligently, for The Blightcaster is as likely to spare you as he is to take up knitting. A hideous amalgamation of cadaver and rodent (both of whom are clearly regretting the merger), his skin pulsates with vile contagion, as if auditioning for the role of “most horrifying biology experiment gone wrong.” Woe betide all who encounter the Lord of Disease, not least because he’s a very inconsiderate dinner guest.

The One Who Rusts

A vicious deity of inconceivable strength, she toils ceaselessly at the corrosive forges of fortune. Her dreadborn hammer and tools produce only ruin, though one suspects her real talent lies in somehow making every project look like it was designed by a particularly ill-tempered architect on a bad day. If you believe in craftsmanship, she believes in its inevitable decay.

The Maw

A vile contradiction made flesh - or possibly something less appetizing. An incessant famine personified, it is intent on devouring all but the fabric of reality, leaving nothing but an awkward silence where existence used to be. The choice is simple: evolve its domain or become the main course. Either way, The Maw dines tonight.

Bluebottle

A repugnant deity whose grandmotherly form is merely an unsettling disguise for a grotesque, bloated Bluebottle. Winged, deadly, and thoroughly unpleasant at tea parties, she spreads fear and panic wherever she goes, feasting on filth and hunting for fresh corpses like some sort of highly motivated waste management system. Pray you never catch her attention - she will follow you home.

These are but a few of the divine horrors that lurk in The Deadly Path. Each god has their own strengths, demands, and questionable personal hygiene habits. Who will you serve? Who will you defy? And more importantly... how long will you last?

Welcome to the second instalment of The Deadly Path tutorial series. Suppose you’ve just completed the tutorial or are starting your first unguided run. In that case, this guide will walk you through the essential mechanics and gameplay elements to ensure your path through the underworld is as smooth (and deadly) as possible. Let’s dive in!

Navigating the UI

Understanding the game’s interface is your first step to mastering the path:

Population The top number represents the current population of minions. The bottom number represents the population cap (which can be increased by constructing Hovels) If population exceeds it’s cap then your upkeep will be increased.
Age This represents what age you are currently in and what your technology level is. Hovering your mouse over this will also remind you which God, Custodian and level you are playing with.
Bones
Meat
Gold
Knowledge
Blood
Resurces / Upkeep The number alongside Resources represents the amount of that resource that you have. The number alongside Upkeep is the amount of that resource that will be deducted from your resource pool each cycle.
Resource Info Indicator The colour of the skull represents if your production of the relevant resource is less than (red), equal to (yellow) or greater than (green) your upkeep cost. Hovering over this skull will show a detailed breakdown for the relevant resource.
Cycles Remaining This represents how many cycles are remaining in the current run. You will lose the run if this reaches 0 before completing all objectives.
Cycles until killing moon How many cycles remain before the next killing moon event begins (Greater upkeep costs)
XP Bar This represents how much XP you have towards your next upgrade/building unlock.
Time left in current cycle How much physical time is left for the current cycle.
Game speed / Pause buttons Clicking on the pause symbol will pause the game. Clicking on the arrow will speed up time in game, or reset back to normal time if clicked after reaching the max speed.

The Deadly Path Controls

Movement: Use WASD or hold the middle mouse button to move around the map.
Zoom: Use the mouse wheel or Q/E to zoom in and out.
Time Controls:

Press the space bar or click the pause button to pause/unpause the game.
Use the 1-3 number keys or the arrow buttons to adjust time speed.
Note: Building on a tile will automatically unpause the game.

Excavating Tiles

To expand your empire, you’ll need to excavate tiles:

Click on an entombed tile to excavate it.
Excavating costs Meat, and the cost increases the further the tile is from your throne room.

Extracting Resources

Resources are vital to survival and progression. Here’s how to gather them:

Scavenger Hut: Extracts Bones (used for constructing new buildings).
Carving Spit: Extracts Meat (used for excavation and upkeep).
Rock Chisel: Extracts Gold (used to cover upkeep costs of buildings like the Hovel).
⚠️ Important: Resources from tiles are limited! Once a tile is depleted, it will remain empty, so plan your resource management carefully.

Assigning Units

Efficiently assigning units is key to maximizing resource collection:

Drag a unit card onto a tile to assign it to a building.
Right-click the tile to unassign the most recently assigned unit.
Shift: Hold to view all currently assigned units.
Unit Management: Click on a unit to unassign it from its task.

Levelling Up

Actions such as excavating, gathering resources, and constructing buildings earn you XP:

Levelling up lets you choose between unlocking new buildings or upgrading existing ones.
Upgrading existing buildings (e.g., a Carving Spit to extract more Meat per cycle) will apply to all iterations of that building at no additional cost.

Advancing Through Eras

Adjacent to your throne room, you’ll find ERA Beacons:

Upgrade these beacons to advance through the ages, unlocking higher-tier buildings and expanding your excavation range.

Additional Tips and Challenges

Killing Moon: This event increases upkeep periodically. Prepare by managing resources wisely.

Upkeep Costs: Every full cycle (visible on the cycle countdown on the right of your UI) incurs upkeep costs for your god, buildings, and units. Balance expansion with sustainability.

Manual of Misery: Press Tab to access this in-game manual, filled with useful details, tutorials and tips.

You’re now equipped with the basics to take your first steps toward appeasing the gods of the Dread Pantheon. Experiment with your strategies, adapt to challenges, and remember: the gods reward the cunning and punish the careless.
