The Wild Side introduces animals, fishing, farming, new terrain generation, new resources, new equipment, and a huge range of gameplay, balance, and quality-of-life improvements.
Hunt wildlife across the island, cast a line, build irrigation systems for your crops, and explore newly generated lakes, bays, and terrain.
Animals
Wildlife has arrived across the island, including:
Chickens
Deer
Boars
Bears
Bears and boars are hostile, so getting too close can turn dangerous fast. Animals also react to loud sounds like gunshots.
Animals have blindspots you can use to sneak up on them more carefully.
Animals can be hunted for new resources including animal fat, leather, and meat.
Animal fat is now an important part of Strayed's crafting, with several recipes rebalanced around the new resource:
Basic Fuel: 2 Cloth + 3 Animal Fat
Furnaces: 50 Basic Fuel
Large Furnaces: 100 Basic Fuel
Rockets: 15 Basic Fuel
C4: 30 Basic Fuel
Medical Syringes: 6 Basic Fuel
Leather can be used to craft the new Leather Armor set.
Fishing
The Improvised Fishing Rod is craftable and a learned blueprint by default.
Cloth Plants will now yield worms which can be used as bait.
Use the Fishing Rod to catch:
Herring
Bluegill
Brook Trout
Rainbow Trout
Salmon
Casting further gives you a better chance of catching larger and rarer fish.
To catch the fish after a bite, pull the fish towards you, then reel in the slack. You can not reel a tensioned line.
Fish can be gutted for food, while larger catches can be sold at the new Fishing Shop in Depot for Shreds.
Farming
The new farming system introduces a range of tools and structures for growing and maintaining crops:

Water Pump
Water Purifier
Water Barrel
Sprinkler
Fluid Splitter
Fluid Combiner
Water can be pumped from both the ocean and the new lakes - but take note: Water pumped from the ocean is saltwater and must be passed through a Water Purifier before use!
Plants need both light and water to grow and survive. Light can be supplied by either the sun, or through powered Ceiling Lights for enclosed spaces. You can aim your hand at a plant to view its conditions!
A new Farming Shop has also been added to Depot if you need a little help getting your farm going.
World Generation
The island itself has received several major improvements:
Added an erosion terrain generation step
Added lake and bay generation
Roads now sit flatter against the terrain and deform the ground more consistently
Tuned island height and falloff
Warehouse Monument Rework
The Warehouse has been given a whole new look!
Gameplay & Quality of Life
Major overhaul to the game's networking, improving consistency during poor network conditions
Research Benches now remove one item from a stack instead of preventing research when multiple items are present
Improved inventory crafting UI/UX
Player grab UI now takes half a second to open when holding grab on another player
Stack splitting now snaps to increments, with an option to disable this behavior
Food items now have a delay between consumption
Improved wire and hose placement flow

Increased SPAS-12 damage
Increased Staple Gun range and damage
Decreased Cloth Armor protection
Metal Armor now reduces cold protection
Scrap Armor now reduces cold protection
Solar Panels now cost 75 Shreds instead of 100 at the Depot
Splitters and Combiners are now sold at the Depot electricity shop
