Big News: Chinese Translation is Here!

Making our game accessible to players around the world has always been important to us. Over the past few months, we've received many requests from players asking for a Chinese translation – and we listened.

We truly respect and appreciate the vibrant Chinese-speaking community, and we wanted to meet their expectations. So, while our artists are busy drawing, animations are being polished, and new side quest scripts are being written, the rest of the team found time - with some outside help - to prepare a translation for the game.

We're well aware that Chinese is a complex language, and we've almost certainly made some mistakes along the way. But this is just the first step. We'll keep working hard to polish this aspect and make it as good as it deserves to be.

For now, only Simplified Chinese is supported - we plan to add Traditional Chinese once we're confident that the Simplified version is in good shape.

One of the challenges we ran into was that the Chinese font behaves very differently from our usual game font – different pixel sizes, different spacing. This forced us to rework the UI layout on several screens. In the end, though, that turned out to be a good thing: the interface now appear to be more universal.

Still, even after many rounds of fixes, we're not 100% sure everything is perfect. So please - don't hesitate to point out any errors you spot. Every bit of feedback helps!

What Else is New?

We've also prepared some fresh content and improvements for all players:

1. Updated Tailwind cards - we weren't entirely happy with how they looked before, and we finally found the time and resources to bring them up to the game's current visual standard.

2. Revamped dialogue with Madam Nadi in Kvilleten - Fabian now has a chance to get to know her character better. Also, her story about the Princess felt a bit redundant, since the merchant in Dentwon now tells a similar tale, so we've adjusted that scene accordingly.

3. Expanded Lauren's side quest - Cathal will now reveal something dark from Lauren's past. After learning the truth, you may never see her lightheartedness the same way again - because beneath that carefree surface lies a heavy guilt she's been carrying all along.

4. Various important fixes and tweaks - we've slightly expanded Ordì's role in a few scenes, and adjusted some sounds here and there to improve the overall atmosphere.

Hello, pirates! It's time for the developer diary. Here we talk about progress, share thoughts, and news.

We'd like to start with something unpleasant for us — criticism. Of course, everyone faces it and reacts differently. For us, the main criterion is: "Does the criticism improve the game or not?" If yes — we listen and fix it regardless of feelings. That's been the case with many things, and it's no surprise — the first experience and first game can't be perfect in principle (though for some reason many think we're a professional team with tons of experience). But anyway. We'd like to recall two topics: the impossibility of getting all content in one playthrough, and the imbalance of choices. The first is bad criticism, because it reflects a personal opinion of a player who expects everything at once and then leave. The second is more interesting. On one hand, a choice between A and B when you don't fully understand the consequences always seems unequal, and in general they don't have to be equal. As a player, you can take a certain path and lose part of the content, which is normal in visual novels or even RPGs. Still, we reviewed several places in the game and decided to change some text so that players who chose the less packed option get a bit more satisfaction.

By the way! We wrote the text for dates with Anna and Lauren back at the beginning of the game (before the island). We still need to draw the scenes for them, and then we realised that there is catastrophically little 16+ content in the game. That is, fanservice, suggestive but not too explicit scenes. We'll gradually fix that.

So, as of mid‑June, we're moving along nicely. While the art is being drawn, other team members are busy with their own tasks — endings are being written, the game is being translated into Chinese, and ideas for the next project are being developed (on paper so far). A bit more detail:

The endings are now outlined, and although we haven't got to them yet, we want to know — would you be satisfied with 1‑2 pieces of art and a description of "what happened next", or would you like something else? So far we have 16 endings and we're already worried whether we'll have enough resources to properly present them all.
The game will most likely get both Traditional and Simplified Chinese in the next update, after which we'll expand to other languages.
Drawing takes the most time, and while some team members have free time, we're thinking about future projects. So far our thoughts are: before finishing Wet Sand, we'd like to make a small spin‑off, and then take on another project in the same setting, but with an independent NSFW module. To be precise, the game will be SFW, but via a patch or some other way you'll be able to add a spicy element to the game. It will definitely not be a visual novel, but most likely 2D.

Regarding plans to implement combat/DLC: if after release everything goes well (sales allow us not to go bankrupt), we plan to add a DLC with a combat system on the map (real piracy) and a story arc for several quests. These are just plans for now, depending on our financial situation. So we're not promising anything.

You've sent us your feedback on the latest patch, and we've seen that there are some bugs hindering a comfortable playthrough. We managed to fix some of them almost immediately, but others we haven't been able to fix just yet. As for the addition of an item to Fortune's shop (a gift for Dolores), along with some other small details (like animations) - we'll release them as soon as possible (hopefully within the next month). After that, there will be a big patch that we'll try to release in early to mid-summer. It will feature three side quests for the Schultzes, the Princess, and Ethan. We're currently finishing up the proofreading (to avoid, as before, making edits after the text has already been implemented into the game).

So, the current stage of the update's readiness is the initial groundwork. The designer is currently busy redesigning the Gallery to include a filter for regular and NSFW art, as well as sorting by locations and characters - because there's more and more content, and we need to structure it somehow to make it easier for you to understand which images, where, and with whom, you haven't unlocked yet.

The programmer is helping with proofreading the text and adding additional elements that, from a game design perspective, are important and were overlooked during the initial writing of the story (for example, choices). Among other things, we're adding to the list of fixes and additions to past content, continuously discussing things we've missed, and aiming to make up for them.

The lead artist has prepared sketches for all the NSFW scenes in the next three side quests for an outsourced artist, drawn a sprite for "young Anna" for her side content, and is currently busy gathering references for backgrounds for the upcoming patch and inserting background characters into past content - specifically, into the Pirate's Port and the tavern (it's a repeat of the situation with Kviletten, where there was initially an empty background that was later brought to life with characters). Oh, and also, the backgrounds in the Podwodje area have finally been finished - the Sunken Ship (where Drowned Captain lives) and the Tower in the Kelp Forest (which were planned but got lost and forgotten). On one hand, these aren't very important changes, but we believe they'll add to the story's cohesion.

The writer is proofreading his own material, simultaneously playing through the game for the thousandth time and hunting for errors.

Now, a little bit about the story - ahead (probably within the next year), a series of updates awaits you in which we'll add side quests for all the remaining characters. First up will be, as mentioned above, the quests for Anna & Philip, Ethan, and Princess Martha. Then for Dolores, Vetra, Sarah, Bill, and... Tovenaar. After them, we plan to make a final quest, and the last update will feature all the endings at once + fixes for past content (anything that couldn't be squeezed into previous patches).

We really want to show you all of this as soon as possible, and we hope we'll still have the drive to add some of our own wishes (like the ability to customize character appearances, or more simply put, outfits for the sprites).

For now, we can't show you anything decent, as only the first NSFW scene is ready so far. Thanks to everyone for your patience and support! Fair winds!

Hold the helm tight - our development ship is back on the air with a long-awaited dev diary! It’s been a while since we’ve had a good fireside chat, but we haven’t disappeared. We’ve been weathering storms, battling animation krakens, and charting a course toward the most important point on the map. And yes, we've been lazy too, of course.

Where are we now? The final frontier!
The main character has left the Podwodje, and now before them lies the first part of the final, fifth chapter. This is the "final frontier" we’ve been steering this story toward all these years. The entire plot is fully written, and the work plan is mapped out in detail down to the very last dot. We’re on the home stretch (which will last about a year).

We had planned to release an update back in December, but couldn’t - due to animation delays. Out of 7 key animations, only 4 are ready. To put it gently but honestly: at our current pace, we likely won’t make it by the end of January either. But we’ll still push hard, because we know all too well what a long delay between updates looks like for players.

There are many reasons (and they’re boring), but the main takeaway is this: to move faster, we’ll have to start outsourcing some NSFW scenes much earlier, working on them in parallel with other tasks. We know that long waits dampen interest - and honestly, that stings. But for now, unfortunately, we can’t go any faster. We’ll keep moving forward, inch by inch, to finish the main story.

While preparing the update, we haven’t been idle:

Fixed a ton of bugs and inconsistencies in past content (from logic to punctuation and spelling). Older locations are now more stable.
Tweaked some visual glitches (in the flood scene, Fabian was shirtless in both choices - now he’s wearing one in one of the variants).
Spent a lot of time reflecting and decided we’ll slightly improve some of the existing side quests in the future (because the new ones promise to be better - skills grow over time). We’ll especially flesh out Lauren’s quest and the heroine herself.
Simultaneously exploring options for translating the game into other languages - this will become a real task after the main story is complete.
Plans are brewing for "post-finale goodies": soundtrack packs, source images, maybe even a digital artbook for you. We dream of DLC too, but that’s strictly after the main story. The crew’s energy has dwindled over the years, and we need to set priorities right.

Alright, enough talk. Here’s what we wanted to show you. Some of this you’ve already seen in minor news, but some is brand new. Of course, some images may contain spoilers, so if that matters to you - consider yourselves warned.

This is a map for a small minigame awaiting you ahead. A sort of fort, hand-drawn by one of the team members to plan something out.

Hello everyone! We have finally finished the long-awaited patch and are ready to tell you what will change in version 0.7.8.

As we mentioned in some previous news posts, most of our time was spent on four new scenes with the cultist, which we added to the previous content. The rest of the changes are not as extensive, but are intended to improve certain aspects to make the game more comfortable and enjoyable for you.

So, here is a list of all the changes:

1. In the second chapter on the island, we added the sound of leaves to the scene with Benno.
2. Fixed typos in the text that players sent us.
3. Added 4 new NSFW scenes with cultist Sarah (text, animations) to previous scenes (prison, captain's cabin, corridor with cabins).
4. Improved and detailed the sprite of Exana de Jirde.
5. Improved and detailed the sprites of Beatrice and Montel, Benno's uncle and aunt
6. In Dentwon prison, when the cultist is released, added a background with a missing door to the cell (according to Fab's text, he removes it, but the background did not change)
7. Improved and detailed the sprite of the merchant in Dentwon
8. Added water to the background before the island during the storm - now it appears in the hold, as described in the text
9. In Anna's cabin, reduced the shadow of the gun that Philipp asks to find. Now it doesn't stand out so much from the background
10. In the first chapter after the battle with the smugglers, added a position with closed eyes for the weasel Ordy (when the weasel is lying on the bed).
11. Updated the sprite of the cultist Sarah so that she stands in a 3/4 position like the others.
12. During Tovenaar's story about the history of the world (after the island), instead of the cabin background, we drew 9 sketches illustrating events from the past.
13. In Anna's cabin, we changed the color of the two dildos to a more natural color.
14. We added artwork of Fabian and Olivia kissing during their date before the storm.

15. In Dentwon, the trade window was updated to match the new one in Fortuna's Shop.
16. Fixed a bug where if you completed only one quest for the elders in Podwodje and left, it was impossible to return to the temple.
17. In the trade window, the button to end the trade has been moved to a more logical location, instead of being at the bottom of the screen.
18. In the mini-game “Drinking” with Ka in the tavern, the background for the tutorial window has been updated, replacing the forgotten test version with the current one.
19. During one of the evening hubs, it was possible to help Miss Brown find her hat. The problem was that if you took the quest but didn't find the hat and went to sleep, the quest remained in the diary forever, but it was impossible to complete it. Now it disappears if you haven't completed this mini-quest.
20. Before starting a new game, we added a window for players who don't know how to turn off mini-games in the options, where you can choose to play with or without mini-games. You can still change this in the options.
21. In the Hissara’s quest, during the escape scene through the caves, we added more sounds for atmosphere.

We are smoothly approaching the next story update and want to release it in July. It will be followed by Chapter 5, which we will most likely also split into several parts (at least the main story, side quests, and endings). We really hope to finish the game next summer.

Additionally, we're pleased to announce a special collaboration! We're now working with TinyHat Studios, they are a publishing label who will be helping us out on the marketing side of things. Now we'll be able to spend more time focusing on the game itself!

Greetings friends, the Likho Games team is here with you and let's tell you how things are going and when the update is coming.

In January we had an unpleasant situation and had to find a new translator. At this time, the work on the story continuation has been suspended, but we have been busy editing the past content.
For example, we added water to the hold during the storm before the island:

The last patch fixed a lot of issues and improved the NSFW part. Now everything is back to normal and we are continuing, or rather finishing the update work. The team thinks that we overestimated ourselves a bit and expanded the underwater part so much that the next update (the third of four) is similar in size to the whole first chapter. This is very good for the game and for you, but difficult for us. It just so happens that the “competent” division into releases led us to make the first underwater part small and the third one huge. This has taken its toll on the speed of development, but we're getting close to the finale.

What's in store for you in the upcoming update?

For starters, there are 5 mini-games that are woven into the narrative in the form of mandatory and side quests to gain some arts. There will also be another minor character sprite, a bunch of new backgrounds, 7 NSFW scenes and 3 loyalty quests with the main female characters (Ka, Hissara, Wytta). We're asking for a bit more time, as there were more challenges this time around than before.

WIP

The mood in the team is normal, but as it usually happens, the closer we get to release, the more nervous we get. Some things we didn't do as well as we wanted, but we'll definitely fix them in the future. Along the way, the artists are drawing images for the next update and there shouldn't be fewer bugs and difficulties with it. One of the artists is working on old content and we decided to retroactively add 4 NSFW scenes with Sarah as we realized it was necessary. You'll see them somewhere in a patch after the next update.

What's next?

Already at this stage we have received feedback (and we notice it ourselves) that there is a lot of text in the game, but there is much less interactivity, as well as NSFW parts. We will try to fix it, but the main thing is that soon we will start to think how to optimize the story in the last chapter to give only what is necessary, not everything we want. So for now it turns out that after completing the chapter with Podwodje, you'll have loyalty quests available for the rest of the team who haven't had them yet, as well as one mandatory story quest and a finale where you can decide whether to summon the Elders into the world or do something else. Still planning on doing about 15 endings, some of which will be global and some of which will be personal, for each main character.

Since we had to put more effort into this update, we wrote and communicated with you less often. We will fix it. In the meantime, we're working hard to polish and finalize the update, which we want to release 100% in March. We hope for the first half of the month. Good luck to everyone and thanks for being with us, because only thanks to your support the game in development is... developing and improving.

Hi friends,

We are late with the release of the update, but there are reasons for that, which we wrote about earlier. But to make it up to you, we decided to prepare a patch in the form of a bunch of different fixes and improvements of past content. Let's tell you what's changed:

First of all, the most important change - there are more animations. We animated 20 static images, including both 16+ scenes and regular images, which became more epic. In addition to these animations, we improved and updated ALL 18+ scenes, intelligently adding sounds so that visuals and sounds connect correctly. Initially there was a grand plan to improve NSFW scenes and everything almost worked out, but the catch was that we focused on the example of other games on another engine, but on RenPy it turned out to be more complicated and not so beautiful. But it is what it is!

Among other things, we made a list of 53 edits (!) from typos to logic and from new sounds to adding missing items. Individually, these bugs were of little interest to anyone, but in total, fixing them has significantly transformed the game. We have changed the icons of hearts on the choices in the dialog so that the text correctly displayed and did not cover the number next to it; added the sound of preparing meat when Benno cooks and other rains, slaps, kisses, etc.; finally fixed the error in the logic when finding a folder with documents in the chest - now Fab takes it to himself and the item will appear in the inventory; the same will happen with the vial of poison, which he will take from Ordi; during Tovi's story about the past and artifacts now all items are named correctly (because before they were 1 more and instead of a blade were boots); in several dialogs added sprites, where they were implied, but we missed; fixed a bug where Benno was drawn in the background in old clothes after her quest.

This small update is meant to improve old content, but don't think this is the only thing being done! The main update is in process and is being prepared! Due to some difficulties we're slowing down with it, but overall it's going well. The story sequel will be quite big, there will be mini games and 18+ scenes and personal character quests. We've even started drawing sprites and backgrounds for the last update in Podvodje, so everything is great! We may have something to show you, by the way:

How are you doing? We're doing okay (not good, but not bad either).

Let's talk about the news that happened recently. There are a lot of them.
Let's start with the sad one: one of the outsourced artists (that drew 18+ scenes) is leaving us for six months, but she drew all the necessary artwork for that time in advance. Also, the translator has found a full time job and will no longer be working with us. This is sad, as we'll have to find a new translator, bring her/him up to speed, and try to somehow match the past type of narration. We're already in the process of looking, but we're afraid we'll delay the update because of this situation. We'll see how it goes.

Well, then, on to the good stuff!

We recently took the time to get together at the bar and discussed a lot of things. Most importantly, we finally defined the scope of the game, the lenght. There was a funny situation when the scriptwriter was sure that version 1.0 was the final version of the game, but the programmer explained that in fact you can make even 2.6 or 5.7 versions. Thanks to this understanding we decided to do this:

Release two more Podwodje updates and finish chapter 4;

In chapter 5 we do one big mandatory quest, 7+ personal quests for characters and go to the finale with 12+ endings;

All this is called version 1.0, but after that we make different edits (about which further on), expand the game with content if needed. Or make DLC.

What's with the “different edits”?

First, we decided to animate not only 18+ scenes, but also 16+ (where there is 1 character, most of the time). After playing a bunch of other games of our type and talking to other developers, we realized that it is worth it. And also decided that we will add 3-5 18+ scenes retroactively, and in the new ones we will emphasize several poses in a row. In terms of text - we also realized that it is too descriptive in these scenes and will dilute it with small conversations and descriptions of sounds. The scriptwriter is mastering video editing and we want to cut scenes so that they become much more weighty.

Secondly, not counting pre-release testing, a tester goes through the game completely every six months and collects the bug file. Not to say that the file gets smaller every time, but in fact there are such amazing things that you think - “How did I not notice it before?”. There are a lot of errors and inconsistencies (just worth the treasure map on the island, which Fabian “left in the books” (no) and goes to the ship to get it, but he has it in his inventory). Everything will be fixed either as patches or attached to the regular updates.

And thirdly, the biggest thing we've agreed on is the Extra section. It's 100% coming, but closer to the finals. What's that? No, well, you probably know what it is, but what it will be for us:

There will be an EXTRA section in the main menu (instead of Gallery or Help), which will contain subsections

In the first subsection will be in-game achievements (which are now available only in the Steam version), for which you will receive in-game currency, points. On them you will be able to open extras - in other sections. We make it so that everything can be opened when you get all the achievements

In the second subsection will be alternative costumes, hairstyles for the main female characters (only sprites will be changed)

The third will be music, all promo images (which we draw for Halloween, Christmas, etc.), images not included in the game

In the fourth will be a gallery (if it will be replaced in the menu)

Tired of reading the text? We're sure you are! But there's not much to show us, except this (it's not the finale):

One last thing: we would like to ask you to leave in the comments your wishes about costumes: for example - vampire, nurse, etc. You can even specify which character. There are only two requests - suggest only the main female characters (not Lou or Werewolf) and that the theme of the costumes is not too much out of the setting (farmer's daughter, not office worker). We've come up with 43 options so far, but you might have some great ideas.
