In this update for Ghostwire: Tokyo, we’ve exorcised some bugs and further optimized the game for console and PC.
Performance Enhancements
We’ve added various optimizations to improve overall game performance, particularly on Xbox consoles—including an HFR Performance Graphics Mode for Xbox Series S, which should result in a smoother experience when enabled. You can find this new setting under Options > Graphics.
Expanded Underground Gallery
In the Spider’s Thread Update, we added an art gallery near the Shibuya Scramble Crossing to display the winning entries in our Ghostwire: Tokyo Photo Mode Contest. In this update, we’ve expanded the underground gallery include works from the Tango Gameworks Concept Artists, such as the seasonal artwork that you might have seen on our social media channels, and concept art for the Spider’s Thread Update!

Legend says it got that name because during this month, the gods traveled to a location far from Tokyo for a meeting. So, it’s only fitting that this month, Tango’s spooky action adventure gets its biggest content update yet!
Since launch, players have taken incredible screenshots with Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Photo Mode. We’ve loved seeing your skills, passion, and creativity; and in this update, we want to give you even more tools to capture great pictures in-game.
New Photo Mode Features
We’ve added a suite of new features and options to Photo Mode, including the ability to pause enemies, move Akito in Selfie Mode, and even change the time of day for screenshots! Plus, we’ve included some new camera controls and effect features for better color control over your shots.
The Photo Mode interface has been completely redesigned: features are now within tabs for ease of use, and we’ve added a “Quick Photo Mode” keybind to better take shots on the fly. Below, we’ll explain each item under the new tabs, and denote the new features.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7, at 11 AM ET / 4 PM GMT (Thursday, September 8, 12 AM JST), a new Photo Mode emote and themed costume for this lunar festival will unlock:

Mochitsuki Emote: Akito and KK prepare mochi in the traditional way with this emote.
Happi Costume: A lightweight and brightly-colored coat worn during summer festivals.
AMD FSR 2.0
The moon isn’t the only beautiful thing this week: this update includes support for AMD FSR 2.0 on PC, AMD’s temporal upscaling technology that boosts framerates while delivering high-fidelity visuals.
You can enjoy these performance improvements on PC by enabling “AMD FSR 2.0” under Options > Graphics > Upscaling.

Today's Ghostwire: Tokyo update includes a number of bug fixes, plus seasonal content that will unlock later this week for Obon, an event commemorating the spirits of one’s ancestors. Read on for more details!
Obon Commemoration – New Emote and Costume
Ghostwire: Tokyo is a game about spirits (vanished presences): rescuing them from evil, honoring them, and acknowledging and accepting their passing. Obon is a time to commemorate one's ancestors, whose spirits are believed to temporarily return to this world during this time of year.
Obon traditions vary throughout Japan, but the most common are holding summer festivals in school yards or parks, with everyone dancing the Bon Odori together to welcome the spirits of their ancestors. In some areas, an event called “Toro-nagashi” is also held, in which lanterns are floated down a river or into the sea to mourn the souls of the departed. Areas inspired by the event are featured in the game, and the Tokyo Bon dance is available as an emote in Photo Mode.
On Wednesday, August 3 at 11 AM ET / 3 PM UTC (August 4, 12 AM JST), an all-new festive Obon costume and new Photo Mode emote will automatically unlock for all players:

Jinbei Costume – A casual Kimono-style jacket and short pants, this outfit is perfect whether you’re enjoying a summer festival, or sitting on the porch eating watermelon.
Japanese Sparklers Emote – It isn’t a festival without fireworks! With this new emote, Akito crouches down and enjoys the sparkle of a senko hanabi. (Hanabi literally means, “fire flower.”)

This Ghostwire: Tokyo update focuses on Tanabata (七夕), or “Star Festival,” a traditional Japanese festival where people write their wishes on colorful strips of paper, called tanzaku, and hang them from bamboo branches in the hopes that they’ll come true. In this update, you can make wishes of your own with the Tanabata Wishes emote, available to all players!
This update also includes some additional game adjustments and bug fixes.
Tanabata
Tanabata is the story of two star-crossed lovers: Princess Orihime, daughter of the God of the Sky; and Hikoboshi, a simple cattle farmer, separated by the Heavenly River, but fated to meet for one night a year: the 7th day of the 7th month.
The origins of this story lie in the real twin stars Vega and Altair, and the “Heavenly River” that separates them is our own Milky Way galaxy.
With the Tanabata Wishes emote, Akito and KK look to the stars with a bamboo tree and sasakazari (lit. “hanging decorations”) next to them.

Update Highlights

Performance Improvements: This update addresses some performance issues for PS5 and PC.
Silence, Tengu: There’ve been some noise complaints about the Tengu, so Ed has developed some noise-cancelling headphones for Akito and KK. (Tengu volume can now be adjusted.)
Children’s Day Cosmetic and Emotes: Two new emotes and a new headwear piece inspired by Golden Week.
Children’s Day
Held annually on May 5 in Japan, Children’s Day is one of four national holidays observed during Golden Week, to celebrate the health and happiness of children—typically by decorating with fish-shaped kites and wearing paper samurai helmets! Now you can get in on the festivities in Ghostwire: Tokyo:
