Build 3002 introduces WASD-controls for keyboard movement and navigating in menus -as well as updated and newly configured Control Setting B for keyboard. Nothing new for gamepads. Therefore a lot of informative graphics in the UIs had to be changed (ie. signs in the tutorial levels, info graphics in Settings menu). Next part is about the PLAY menu's filters: Exlporation, Most Plays, Alphabetical etc. Recently Played and Liked Levels now occur among the other classic filters. Also Alphabetical is paged into three part: A-I, J-S, and S-Z. And as always some fixes and enhancement. Welcome to another juicy update!
Firstly, if you like reading these updates, you might find the IndieDB devlog interesting. Here you have lengthier devlogs, more images and over 85 released articles all the way back to the very beginning of DASH in 2018.
New keyboard control:
Implemented WASD (W=up, A=left, S=down, D=right) movement controlling the hero and menu navigation. If preferred a player using the keyboard can
move the hero with WASD
shoot pressing space
dash pressing ctrl
sneak holding del
and jump pressing enter
plus other newly configured keyboard controls.
Arrow key movement (the default controls) is still entact, with only slight changes.
Zoom-in-on-WR-ghost button during runs is now Z instead of W.
Controller Setting A (as default):
shoot with X
dash with C
and jump on space.
Using the arrow keys to move the hero and while navigating in menus.
Controller Setting B (optimized for WASD movement):
shoot pressing space
dash pressing ctrl (or alt gr)
and jump pressing enter.
Using the arrow keys to move the hero and while navigating in menus.
This was demanded already back during Early Access.
Any feedback from keyboard players using the WASD movement etc. is greatly appreciated. Always up for spending another early morning changing sprites, changing values etc., to make sure the best possibly solution is uploaded.
New filters in RUN and PLAYLISTS menu:
Mentioned by Jes in a review: recently played levels should be easier to access. So Recently Played is now a filter in the RUN menu.
Liked Levels is also available: a list of the levels you have rated up (GG!)
Alphabetical list is now paged. Three sections make it easier to find a level by name: A - J, I - R, and S - Z. While it is not pagination by all individual letters I believe it's a good solution to divide the entire list of levels into three sections for new. Perhaps if there ever should be a lot more levels in the database a new system will be developed.
If A new runner enters the filters without having any levels recently played or any liked levels "No levels to display in this filter" pops up.
Because I don't have the resources to test the feature for a completely new user, hopefully anyone experiencing bugs or crashes when opening a list where you don't have any data (such as any liked levels) bug reports and feedback would be greatly appreciated!
New monthly filter in PLAYLISTS menu: BEST OF 25! Right now BEST OF OCTOBER 25 is featured in the menu. Ten levels are chosen each month to feature in this prestigious list. All levels during a month is put into a table. The ten most played levels with a rating higher than 2,5/5 is listed sorted by most plays. Open for all players (features as a default list in PLAYLISTS menu)! Congrats to GGHallGamer who has several levels in the list. Hopefully the coming season we will see more players contributing to the level database :D
Fixes:
Fixed error when drawing news feed tab, when the third line (NEW WR: etc.) was broader than the upper two.
Corrected incorrect x and y position when drawing "Description" and "Confirm" when entering the description for the level you are about to upload.
Thank you for all the running and spikes!
DASH ON!
