Hey everyone! We previously introduced the upgrade of mercenary skills, which can help the protagonist’s team to become stronger. But what about the protagonist? Well, in order to allow the protagonist to be strengthened alongside mercenaries as the level increases, we will allow the artifact skills to be strengthened.
Therefore, we present, the rune system.
What does the rune system do?
1) Upgrade artifact skills
Runes can be used to change and improve the effect of skills. Players will be able to equip runes on artifact skills to gain an ability. Each skill can only be equipped with one rune.
There are two main types of runes:
- Normal: can enhance skills against enemies and most bosses in general.
- Specific: can largely enhance players’ skills against specific bosses or when matched with specific lineups, but the mismatching has negative effects
Rune effects based on the types of effects:
- Offensive types: enhance the offensive aspect of the skill, such as additional damage, increasing the attack range, etc.
- Defensive types: enhance the defensive aspect of the protagonist, such as improving the evasion rate, restoring life, etc.
In order to make everyone better understand, I will use the sword of annihilation as an example to showcase the rune effects. Note that this is still only the planned effect, and the content in the actual data sheet may be slightly different:

Sword of Annihilation has three active skills, and each skill will have 5 types of runes to choose from:
2) Permanent Passive Artifact Bonus
Every rune you unlock gives its corresponding artifact a passive boost regardless if the rune itself is equipped or not. The attributes that get upgraded are either damage bonus or damage reduction depending on which artifact it is.
From the example for sword of annihilation, we see that an artifact can have a total of about a dozen runes that can be equipped. If the player is able to unlock all the runes for sword of annihilation, the damage bonus gained will be very impressive.
How to get runes
There are two ways to get runes:
1）Open the chest Rune
Players will need to use chest tickets to open chests. Tickets can be acquired by taking part in sprint events.
2）Consume rune fragments to unlock
When a player gets duplicated runes, they will be converted in to rune fragments. Once the player has collected enough fragments, he can unlock the rune at the rune page
Note that
- Players can only get runes or rune fragments of the artifacts that are unlocked already by the players.
- The probability of getting each rune is different.
With the rune system, the protagonist will be more worthy putting efforts in. The choice of skill runes for different artifacts will involve more strategies. While facing a powerful enemy, players will find more ways to deal with it, so they will have a better control of the battle. We can start thinking about what strategy we can use beforehand.
