On June 14 1940 Paris fell. The French army organized a heavy defence of the capital, but the line was broken in several places.
In six weeks from May 10 German forces defeated Allies with mobile operations and conquered France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. German commanders met with French officials on June 18 with an intention to force the new French government to accept an armistice that amounted to surrender.
The Battle of France is the fourth Panzer Strategy game scenario. We have reproduced the German mobile operations against British, Belgian and French forces including the attack on the Maginot Line (fortifications along the border with Germany built by the French during the 1930s).
Also, we use heavy tank Char B1bis in this scenario. This French tank was a hard target for the Germans. It was a specialized break-through vehicle.
Among the most powerfully armed and armored tanks of its day, Char B1bis was very effective in direct confrontations with German armor in 1940.
The occupation of the various French zones continued until November 1942, when the Allies began Operation Torch, the invasion of Western North Africa. On August 24 1944, Paris was liberated, and by September 1944 most of the country was in Allied hands.
