Hello everyone and welcome to Oddinary Highway Biweekly update!
In this update we will cover recent developments of Oddinary Highway.
After Steam game festival we gathered valuable feedback about the game. It appears that core mechanic is an area for fine tuning. First thing first – player movement. According to feedback, we have quite bad input handling when it comes to movement of the car. To fix this, input processing is updated to use normalized vector from controls input. Check the difference especially for diagonal movement. It’s much more predictable now!
During festival we streamed special version of Oddinary Highway. What’s so special about it? In transition between levels, game picks random modifier for the next level. Instead of this, we made voting for one out of three modifiers. This is very first draft, that we made fast for the Steam Game Festival and it required some cleanup. So we spent some time improving the code. It’s still simplified voting functionality, which we want to make for the Streamer mode in the full game. You can check it live during one of the future Oddinary TV: Weekend Streams, where we play latest version of the game and working on it.
Last week, we worked a bit on new visual effects during the stream. One of them is to visualize applied on enemies slowing effect. Visual effect is still WIP and might change in the future, once it’s used in the game systems. Currently, there is slowing bullets drone and new effect will be used together with it. But we plan set of weapons and secondary items with slowing effect.
Second effect is rough mockup for the new level modifier, which we will introduce to the game soon.
Apart from that, we have been working on organizational things and preparing for something big. We will share more info about that quite soon!
