The 0.7 Patch continues to make improvements and fix issues that have arisen over the previous testing sessions as we get ready for Early Access Launch. The particles received another optimization pass removing some lighting from the explosion particles in the process. This was having a fairly large impact on performance for grenades and rocket launchers and should improve their performance as a result.
This patch also should fix the haptics crashing issue that we were having since haptics were introduced. The issue was pinpointed and resolved as well as putting in some new code so if it happens again it hopefully won’t crash the client out, instead the haptics just will not work. Haptics has been enabled in this patch by default again, but if you are using a previous version you might have it disabled, check your settings to be sure.
Another important change is in the “flick” reloading code. 2 adjustments were made that should make it work better than it was before. Just a friendly reminder this reloading method is taking the gun at a level angle (or pointing slightly up) and then rotating it rapidly to pointing down toward the floor. This should be working more consistently than before with this patch.
Finally a few other issues were resolved. Knives should now properly drop if you log or die, fixed the jumping when falling to slow the falling, the jumping change makes it so you don’t have to hold down jump now to do a full jump, jetpacks now should appear visually if a player is introduced after picking it up, fixed 2 mines showing up online with the mine gun, and both mine types can now kill you if you run over your own mines.
Animations
- Fixed an animation jitter with bots if they are spawned.
Audio
- Jetpacks now have a pickup sound.
Graphics
- Adjusted the dithered transparency on grenades, pills, and stims so that they can be seen through chest mounted weapons such as Rifles.
- Optimized grenade and rocket particles.
- Removed dynamic lighting from many particles as an optimization. We may re-add these in as optional bits in the future but our primary focus currently is on making sure players can keep steady frame rates larger battles.
Input
- Pressing jump will now do a full jump, holding down the button will have no impact on height like it was doing before.
- Fixed the ability to slow down falling by jumping. You should now fall normally if you attempt to jump while falling.
Maps
- Removed the windows from the client lobby to improve performance.
- Adjusted the instance groups in the client lobby so reduce overdraw.
Miscellaneous
- Owners now receive credit for kills when other players step on Mines which they have placed.
Pickups
- Adjusted jetpack code so it can only be grabbed once.
- Armor will now display a text banner when picked up.
- Jetpack should no longer send more than 1 message when you grab it.
- Fixed a bug which was not displaying jet pack on clients if they weren’t near the player when they grabbed the jetpack.
- Medical items now disable their physics shortly after being dropped as an optimization.
User Interface
- Jetpack fuel will now appear/disappear in Minimal like the rest of the UI. It is also setup to do the same thing in Messages Only as there is no other indicator of how much fuel you have left.
- Adjusted the setting of the player name over the head to be able to delay if for some reason the player name isn’t ready. Also removed the text that was present so it is empty until it is set.
Weapons
- Reloading angle code has been updated. It should now get the downward angle properly making it easier to reload, specially with 2 hands. As before you want to rapidly rotate the weapon from level to straight toward the ground. All else fails if using 2 hands do a full rotation of the weapon.
- Mine launcher will no longer create 2 mines when playing online.
- Knives will now drop on death or logout.
- Stim injectors will now drop on death or logout.
- Mines from grenades or Mine Launchers can now damage the owner.
- Adjusted the physics dropping for all guns and knives when they are dropped on death.
- Shields now have the physics adjustments added when dropped or dropped on death.
- Dropped knives will now disappear about 7 seconds unless picked up by someone else.
- Fixed the haptic audio that was crashing out the rifle and put in a check to make sure it doesn’t crash out in C++ if it happens again.
