We're happy to announce the new major release for Outbreak: The New Nightmare! v3.0.0 contains many significant new features, enhancements and fixes! Let's take a look through some of the big pieces.
New Characters - Hank and Elena
Hank and Elena join our roster of survivors as the latest entries. These new characters offer their own unique and powerful benefits.
Hank
Hank is a trained soldier and guardsman. He offers significant damage resistance that grows as he levels. More importantly, he starts with a partially loaded Shotgun, making any initial forays into scenarios just a bit easier. With these benefits, Hank makes an excellent starter character (alongside Lydia) for folks and his available abilities are focused around damage and resistance buffs.
Elena
Elena is a burglar and former espionage assassin. After she was discharged by the government, she used her skills to rob the rich. Initially unaware of the apocalypse, she was using the chaos for her own gain but soon enough finds herself stuck with the rest of the survivors fighting for their lives. Elena has two major bonuses that make her an appealing character. She starts with a fully loaded normal handgun. She also has full poison immunity from the get-go. As she levels up, you'll see boosts to handgun damage, as well as containing many abilities to start with healing items and different equipment later on. She's a character for moderately experienced players, but starting with the handgun does make her appealing to many folks starting out.
New Enemies - The Monstrosity and the Beast
New threats roam in the darkness and help to build out the cast of horrors that the survivors will face.
The Beast
The beast is a reptilian-type enemy that moves swiftly and strikes in rapid succession. Although they do less damage than other foes, they can quickly overwhelm you if you're not careful. The beast swipes with his claws, but can also spray a dangerous acid attack at you that can hit at range. Beasts cannot be hit with headshot (aiming upward), but are still susceptible to random critical hits. Bring a power weapon and keep them at bay!
The Monstrosity
The Monstrosity is a hulking beast. Bulging with muscle and a huge claw, the beast can do tremendous damage. If you encounter one, you'll want to bring out your greatest firepower and take him out. He moves slow, but can take punishing damage. In this update, you will only encounter him on much later Onslaught waves.
New Weapon - The DMR
The DMR makes its triumphant return in Outbreak: The New Nightmare. Similar to its counterpart in the original Outbreak, it packs a punch and can pierce foes. The DMR offers excellent ammo efficiency and can walk the line between taking on crowds, while also being effective against power enemies. But be warned. They are rare. You'll only find one in most scenarios, but they can show up in greater numbers later on in Onslaught mode. The DMR takes Assault Rifle Rounds and fires slower than its Assault Rifle counterpart with a greatly reduced magazine size.
New Attack
Some existing enemies have gained a powerful new attack - the acid blast. This attack spits forward a ball of acid that explodes on impact with players or the environment. It moves fairly quickly, but can be easily sidestepped if you're prepared. Poison enemies will always have it at their disposal.
Other Changes
This update brings some new quality of life features as well.
Unloading Weapons
One of the most requested features is to remove ammo from weapons. You can now easily do it by combining the weapon with an empty slot in your inventory. This will remove all ammo from the weapon and either place it in your inventory, combine it with existing ammo in your inventory, or drop it on the floor if for any reason your inventory cannot accept the amount of ammo. We'll keep looking for ways to intuitively allow you to unload weapons, but for now this should be an excellent start. Enjoy!
Scenario Changes
Many of the scenarios have had minor changes to integrate new enemies, provide some new supplies or make the DMR available. You might see some new scares in previously safe spaces, so keep your guard up! In Onslaught Mode, you'll see new enemies at different wave tiers, as well as some changes to what weapons can appear. Many of these changes start around Wave 7.

And More…
This release also includes many minor fixes, enhancements and fixes not covered here. The patch notes don't even reflect everything. If you notice any issues after this update, please report them in the discussion forums.
Thanks again to everyone for their continued support of Outbreak: The New Nightmare. This adventure has been awesome so far and we still have many more great enhancements and features to come. Progress on the City location is coming along slowly, but it's where our focus will now be turning now that these features are out. Keep posting feedback and if you enjoy the game (and feel it deserves it), please consider leaving a positive Steam review. Thanks and we'll see you out there surviving!
Also big thanks for Mr RSpeedy for his help in aggregating content and testing out this release. His addition to the Special Thanks section in the credits is well deserved!
