Affliction,
Hey again everyone!
So, I posted a status update yesterday in the middle of the day after having worked all morning but then I continued working late into the night on improving the AI.
After a few hours of solid coding, I can safely say that the next update will SIGNIFICANTLY improve the AI in every single way. Flanking, maneuvering, using cover, suppressive fire, constant target acquisition, and many more behaviors have been added for the human AI.
For the Afflicted (zombie type) AI, advanced tracking, sense of smell, constant target updates, and a few other behaviors have been added.
Sense of hearing has also been improved for all AI.
AI will no longer lose sight of the player and completely return to normal, like nothing ever happened. With a heightened alert system, area of influence for encounters, and more efficient algorithms for combat, the game should be much more fluid in playing.
Another issue that is fixed from this is the AI becoming stuck on obstacles. Since the old AI version only checked player location one time instead of constantly, AI would often get stuck on obstacles while moving toward the player. This should no longer be the case. They can get themselves unstuck now if this does happen.
The stealth system has also been improved. As I said above, there is now a heightened alert system that I custom wrote yesterday that makes the AI react much better to different events. Enemy AI also now have a small "area of influence" around them so you won't be able to escape their attempts to hunt you down so easily anymore.
This was a major breakthrough for the game. Truly. This major improvement will come with the release of chapter 4 and all of it's goodies. Coming soon.
I hope everyone is excited for the update!
