Affliction,
Hey everyone, here's another quick status update regarding our progress with the game. ːAflashlightː
I wanted to talk about a new feature that I added today and go over how it works. Something I dubbed the "Last Chance" system. ːAbandagesː
Basically it works like this: When you have 100 health, you'll be given the "Last Chance". It will display on your HUD (Heads Up Display) as a big "1" next to a damaged heart. When you reach 35 health or below, that 1 will change to a "0" and you'll lose the "Last Chance" temporarily, but you'll be given an additional 15 health (may change in the future based on feedback) to give you one last chance - hence the name - to save yourself. Now, the only way to get that "Last Chance" back is to reach 100 health again and fully recover. The player has a natural health regeneration of 1 health every 15 seconds (again, this may also change in the future based on feedback) so it's possible to regain this "Last Chance" without needing to find medical items like medical kits and bandages but it'll take some time. This helps encourage using cover and cutting back on the whole "run n gun" mentality. This game is not meant for that. It is possible you won't always actually get a "Last Chance" because some weapons are more than capable of doing large amounts of damage in an instant. For example, the Dragunov SVD sniper rifle. That is a powerhouse of a weapon and very dangerous. It could (in some cases) potentially do enough damage to lower you past the point where you'd lose the "Last Chance" and regain some health but still kill you. We're aware of this, and that is how it is meant to be. Enemies and the player do the same amount of damage. There are no handicaps on the NPCs. The player will need to be smart in how they engage enemies and pick their fights wisely. ːArifleː
The addition of this feature also fixes an annoyance (not really a bug but something that didn't completely act the way we wanted) - the lives counter. With the engine that we chose to use, there is a hard coded (unchangable) feature that displays how many lives you have on your HUD. Since the game is realistic, you only have 1 life. So, it reminded you that you always have 1 life only which was pointless. Now, we've combined the lives system with the "Last Chance" system so now you know when you have that reserve "Last Chance" and when you do not. ːAsyringeː
Another thing we've worked on is getting the load times down and we've had great success. We previously had load times of over several minutes in length for a short and simple map, now they take between 10 and 30 seconds only. That is a tenth of our previous load times. We've also been able to increase the quality of the graphics all while still keeping performance good and stable. The game is really starting to take form and be capable of showing the true potential that it has. ːAmagazineː
Let me know what you guys think! We want feedback! ːWWFAKː
