Affliction,
So, as it's been said several times, the game will be difficult and won't be holding any hands. It is being built this way on purpose but, I decided today that it might be a little bit more fair to have a very simple tutorial. It won't be part of the main game however. The main game is supposed to have a "shock factor" for its first scene and the skill required to succeed. This should last throughout the game. Now, it won't be ridiculous for difficulty, but it should be somewhat challenging for the average player. The game is both a shooter and a thriller so combat shouldn't be all "run and gun and repeat".
This wasn't anticipated, and it certainly wasn't planned, but I had a change of heart late last night so all day today (from the moment I woke up this morning until writing this) I put together an old military base that is fully functional in terms of a basic training tutorial, all while keeping with the same extreme atmosphere. With fully voiced speech lines and some deeply scripted elements, the tutorial will release FOR FREE with the main game as a separate executable file upon release for all customers.
It will go over several main game elements including self driven exploration, following orders, basic to advanced movement techniques, basic puzzle solving, basic item hunting and retrieval, item handling, basic weapon handling, and last but certainly not least wound recovery.
Veteran players of FPS style games won't need to do it and probably won't really learn anything new, but it may be fun to play through just for the experience and the continued amount of game play it offers for Affliction.
New players to FPS style games are encouraged to play through the tutorial but not required. That's why it is a completely separate executable file. I wanted to give the players complete choice over their individual participation in it.
Like I said above, it's a simple tutorial, but it's definitely going to be helpful to players and maybe even interesting to some.
