You can now modify loops after you’ve recorded them! This includes their sound, velocity, pitch, quantization, and duration. Loops now have one dedicated menu interface, with the ability to single-select or multi-select them – much like the ringers. Loop modifications occur in real-time, even while the loop is playing, which adds yet another dimension to EXA’s live performance capabilities.
This version also includes improvements to the “Sounds” menus and the “draw” tool. See a full list of details below.
Also: a big thanks to everyone who has sent feedback, reviews, ideas, and bug reports! This info goes directly into EXA’s internal roadmap, and helps prioritize upcoming features and fixes. Please keep it coming, and of course, tell some friends about EXA!

LOOP MODIFICATION
- Loops are now single-selectable and multi-selectable, following the exact same selection rules that the ringers use.
- Added a new “Loops” menu for modifying selected loops. It functions like the “Ringers” menu does for selected ringers, including the dashed lines that connect the menu to the selected item(s).
- The “Loops > Sounds” menu allows you to change the sound of all notes within the selected loop(s). Once a new loop sound has been selected, selecting that sound again will “uncheck” it, and the loop will return to its originally-recorded sound(s).
- The “Loops > Levels” menu allows you to change the relative velocity (hit intensity) of the loop’s notes, shift the pitch of the notes, and adjust the loop’s quantization. Quantization is measured in divisions per beat; use it to bump your performed notes to the nearest quarter note, eighth note, etc., or slide all the way to the right to use no quantization. Using no quantization is perfect for strumming or other free-form performances that have no need for metronome alignment.
- The “Loops > Duration” menu allows you to trim (or add) beats to the start or end of a loop. A number with a “+” sign indicates that the loop duration will lengthen, and “-“ will shorten. Note that these signs are flipped for start vs. end usage. Use the button at the bottom to apply the duration change. This menu can only be used in single-selection scenarios.
- The “Loops > Selection” menu allows you to deselect or delete all the selected loops.
- All “Loops” menu adjustments are reversible – both its original and modified states are maintained (both at runtime and in the saved “layout” files). These adjustments are also backwards-compatible – loops saved prior to this version will simply receive the default “Loops” menu settings.
IMPROVEMENTS
- Updated the "Sounds” menus to automatically open to the deepest path/route shared by all the selected items. This occurs upon selection of the top-level “Sounds” menu item.
- Updated the “Sounds” menus to yellow button text if it falls within the path/route of any currently-selected sounds. This helps you navigate to the active sounds, especially when many are selected and the “Sounds” menu can’t auto-open all the way to any single one of them.
- Updated the “draw” tool so that each newly-drawn ringer uses the most-recently-selected sound (from any ”Sounds” menu).
- Reduced the minimum ringer “velocity” from about 8% (10 of 127) to about 0.8% (1 of 127) for greater range of volume/intensity.
FIXES
- Fixed an issue causing the 4-panel SteamVR “mixed reality” mode to ignore the requested camera field of view (FOV) and use a wide, incorrect one instead. Likely an issue caused by a recent Unity change -- see these details.
- Fixed issue causing a grab tool to become un-usable and un-swappable when the “Ringers > Selection” menu is grabbed moments before it disappears (due to deselection/deletion of the ringers).
- Fixed issue causing hits to occasionally occur immediately after teleporting toward (but not past) a ringer.
